Rooted in preserving Heaven Gallery’s legacy as a vital community third space in Wicker Park, the Equity Arts project will become the energetic architecture that utilizes Cultural Futurism to establish a new economy based on personal identity and gifts. The project shifts consciousness from scarcity to abundance for the arts by securing a revenue-generating real estate asset that reinvests its wealth into a resilient arts ecosystem for generations to come.⁠

The evening's fashion theme, Cultural Futurism, pairs minimal silhouettes with personal cultural detail. This intimate evening will include craft cocktails/mocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed by a sit-down community dinner featuring a curated three-course meal by artist Sarah Belknap. Part of the event is a silent art auction with work by Chicago artists and a raffle featuring unique items and gift cards from local businesses. Come celebrate Heaven Gallery's legacy and Equity Arts' future of shared economic power through this intentional investment in imagination. ⁠

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the 2026 Equity Arts Benefit, An Investment in Imagination, is postponed. This event was intended to raise funds for Equity Arts.⁠

Part cultural preservation and part reimagination of the built environment, Equity Arts began as an art-led placekeeping initiative by legacy arts organizations Heaven Gallery and LVL3 Gallery.⁠

Despite this postponement, we are deeply grateful for the support shown by our community, sponsors, artists, and collaborators. We look forward to sharing updates soon and continuing this important project together.⁠

And finally, stop 3/3 — I checked out Equity Arts Chicago, an old industrial building turned incubator for local artists and entrepreneurs.

As rising costs make it impossible for many artists to operate independently, @equityarts is providing them the space and structure to thrive.

As I’ve said: this city has everything it needs.

Chicagoans know what we need and so many of them are already doing it. There’s a bright future ahead with a mayor who’s ready to lean in!

This is one of the most sacred and special poems I created. The backstory begins in prison. The year is 2020 and the fact that this poem was not even supposed to be published in the first place is a testimony within itself. At the time I was in solitary confinement and was not allowed access to mail, pen 🖋️ or paper. Nonetheless without elaboration(not gonna reveal how I did it)I was able to get pen, paper and clandestinely got this poem out of the hole and published in this zine. Once I was able to sneak it out I had it sent to @freecaseynow who has been an ardent advocate for prisoners' rights who then published it when he was at the time contributing as an editor at In The Belly. In conclusion , this was my biggest middle finger to the system that aspired to silence, demean and make me invisible. What was so gratifying was seeing the look on the guards faces once they realized I'd managed to get pen,paper and then get it smuggled out and published on their watch 😂. The revolution won't be televised but it will be published. Shout out to publications and the revolutionaries who stand side to side with those of us on the inside fighting for liberation and respect for the humanity of all. Much love to @freecaseynow who supported me during one of my most trying and traumatic periods of my incarceration, accepted my collect calls and sent me money once I got out of prison and we have never seen each other face to face. Now that's a real revolutionary, true in spirit. Free them all @officialchairmanfredhamptonjr @toussaint__the_aboltionist @abolitionschool @abolitionheritage @mossbal1l @therealbrockelley @penflow_writingsessions @wanpoetry @voicesinpower_
