I’ve traditionally handcrafted copper jewelry since childhood, learning from my grandfather. We’ve personally observed how this metal and its colorful secondary minerals form together beautifully in nature at our old mine and wildlife-habitat restoration project. As silver prices surge, more jewelers are turning to alternate metals. Welcome to copper! We share everything we’ve learned in our many FREE jewelry-making tutorials under Reels, and we answer questions in the comments where we all learn together.
𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬:
• Melting point: 1,984°F (vs. silver 1,640°F)
• Work-hardens faster
• Conducts heat more
• Oxidizes instantly
• Annealed copper is extremely soft
𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐬: lots of heat & flux.
• Use a bigger flame. Copper absorbs more heat. Torch the entire piece, not only the seam. Bring the metal up to the melting point of the solder until it flows.
• Flux heavy, copper oxidizes instantly. I prefer Pepetools Smart Flux “Prips Flux” for firecoat protection. Handy Flux is second best.
• Anneal often. If it feels stiff, anneal. Copper work-hardens quickly.
• Use hard copper art solder for color-matched, clean joints. Copper heats unevenly, so avoid easy solder. Silver solder and many copper-based solders (including Rio’s) will leave a tin line at the seam.
• Keep it clean — oil, oxidation, or dirt = solder failure.
• A brass brush brings back color and removes oxidation.
• Copper shows scratches, so polish well or apply a brushed, textured, or patina finish.
• Seal to preserve luster and prevent skin irritation, fingerprints, and tarnish.

The real work of an artist is not mere creative output—it’s a way of being in the world. If you’re truly committed to this way of life, don’t wait for permission, approval, or even sales. Start building your audience and making as much art as possible now, investing in ourselves, relentlessly learning and creating. When sales are hot, you’ll be glad to have inventory, skills, customers, resources, and tools already in place.

Create the art you love—not what’s assumed will sell or trending on Etsy. The market is oversaturated with excellent jewelry; what’s missing are our unique, original manifestations that stand out from the rest. Emulating others often produces mediocre work at best and rarely leads to a sustainable living.

Professionals consistently practice their craft, regardless of how we feel. Never wait until we “feel” like making art. Forge a strong routine of showing up for yourself, even if it’s just 30 minutes at first, then scale up from there. Discipline delivers results and is never a lack of freedom—reframe it as a harmonious relationship with time that maximizes freedom. Managing our schedule and daily habits effectively frees practical and creative capacities. Good habits create great art. The way we do anything is the way we do everything: mindfully, and in service to our craft.

Never underestimate the power of YOUR story. It’s what largely separates production craftworks from artistry. We must share to be seen. Exhibit our work whenever and wherever possible. Confidence breeds success, and success breeds confidence—lean into that cycle. Be open to criticism, especially helpful feedback that, when applied, makes us better artists. I’ve learned a great deal from documenting and sharing my process, including from those telling me I’m “doing it wrong.” Often, they’ve revealed better ways. Learn to appreciate the lessons—even when the initial reaction may be knee-jerking. Don’t let haters drag you down. Be prepared for them as an invitation to tell our story—impeccably and in public. Negativity without constructive feedback says more about them than a genuine critique of us or our art. Make it a beautiful day! #artist 💎CIFANIgem.com

We’re still glowing from Saturday. 💙 Our very first #CampDefaultWorld event at @audiobarlv in Vegas was more than just a party—it felt like family, like magic, like a little piece of playa here in Vegas.

On Burn Night, watching the livestream together while our DJs lifted us into another world… it felt like being carried onto art cars with people we love. Seeing so many of you dress up, gift on the patio, dance, laugh, and open your hearts—it was overwhelming in the best way. You created something beautiful.

So many of you told us this was the best vibe and party we’ve ever had, and that’s because of YOU. Every hug, every song, every gift shared—none of it could have happened without this community.

As for the next gathering: we want to give our family time to return from playa and for camp leaders to close out properly. When they do, imagine even more camps, more gifting, and more connection woven into the Default World.

If you know someone who should be part of our next event, tag them below. Photos from Saturday and updates on the next one are coming soon.

From the bottom of our hearts—thank you. This first gathering will live in us forever.

Fintess goal acheived, 5 years of 10 miles cardio daily I finally broke 45 ml/kg/min Vo2max, the most important metric for me personally. Focused on endurance and fast-twitch (Type II) muscle development, this is where I feel and perform my best. Total transformation 110 pounds practicing a simple caloric deficit with lots of motion. You can do it too! 🥊🙏 #fitnessmotivation
