Thank you @carol_charlesrussellctv and @ctvnews for the wonderful interview about Church Hat, the children's book and animated short film screening today, Sept 9th, at the @caribbeantales International Film Festival in Toronto.

It was a pleasure talking with you about the inspiration for the children's book it is based on, also titled Church Hat, and the evolution of the story to an animated short film.

The Canadian debut screening this evening will be hosted at Dundas West Studio at 837 Dundas Street West, in downtown Toronto.

Church Hat was produced by @ericcotten , animated by @micealodonnell and stars the voices of @thesherylleeralph and @go_maximus

🌟 Special thanks to @Dayo_kefentse for stellar media support.

The journey of a simple story about a child's questioning leading to acceptance and joy continues 👒

➡️ The children's book Church Hat, beautifully illustrated by @janinecarringtonkids , is available at @adfrntbooklist in Toronto, and on Amazon

Beyond The Wire (@baltimore_legacy_project_) is a documentary that challenges the harmful depiction of Baltimore City portrayed in national media. Directed by social scientist, @blackademic_woman, and shot and edited by 2x Emmy-award winning filmmaker @imanimuleyyar of @baltimore_cu, this film highlights the Black-led community organizations and people on the ground working continuously to reduce violent crime in the city.

Expertly researched and so timely, this is a must-see documentary if you’re even slightly curious how Baltimore has significantly reduced its violent crime rate in the past decade.

The next public screening will be @mdffparkway on August 29th at 2PM. Get your tickets before they sell out; because, they will!

At Screen Share: Caribbean Stories, Collective Power previewing what's to come at this year's @caribbeantales International Film Festival in Toronto that will be from September 8th to 14th. The evening included short film screenings, giveaways, refreshments, and of course networking. @francesannesolomon, Founder of CaribbeanTales International Film Festival spoke about the history of this important event and the Honorable @honjeanaugustine inspired the crowd with her speech about the importance of representation in art.

A couple of years ago I missed my Mom and maternal Grandmother so much I wrote a children's book paying tribute to them that was made into an animated short under the direction of @micealodonnell and produced by @ericcotten . You can see a preview at my YouTube channel: storytoscreen

People ask me if Church Hat is about a child experiencing safety and validation, or about the love of family shown by the open arms of a loving Mother. The answer is yes. The mother in the story represents both women, who showed others with their example, that generational trauma can stop anytime with a simple act of acceptance. So proud to be part of the selection of screenings at Caribbean Tales. Because in the end, everyone's story matters.

Do you have a production looking to hire crew? Are you a crew member looking for work? Or are you just curious about what happens behind the scenes?

@the_crew_call, helmed by Emmy-nominated producer @avqueen, trains and connects young and/or emerging crew members to sustainable film production opportunities in Baltimore. Crew Call is part of Alex’s larger efforts to bring large film productions here.

Last night’s event was a collaboration with @saulzaentzinnovationfund held at @film_centre, but Crew Call usually meets on the very last Monday of every month at the @eubieblakecenter from 7-9!

Day 4 of 5 of the @bravemakerfilmfest . This morning my animated short film Church Hat had it's premiere screening as part of the Family Friendly Shorts block. It was a surreal experience to watch it with an audience in a theatre on the big screen. @micealodonnell your animation and direction was exceptional. One person I have not spoken about and thanked enough is @rszybowski for his original music and score that enhances the mood, atmosphere and identity of the film. Thank you, Rick 🌷.

Congratulations to the other shorts screened this morning; @howwehamstersdie @allheart_film #Detangle by @art_zi_ and @henrithesnail

I'll repeat the quote from @Keenastar 's workshop "You don't have to be great to get started but you do have to get started to be great." 💯

And I'll share my favorite quote "If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far, go together."

Heartfelt thanks to those who have supported and were essential to this creative journey 🌹 @ericcotten @thesherylleeralph and @go_maximus and @tonygapastione the energy and force behind this wonderful festival of film and creativity in Redwood City.

Also...yummy breakfast and strong coffee at @coupacafe hit the spot!

More to come 👒 #AlwaysWriting #representationmatters #lovealwayswins

Checking in from Redwood City #California where I'm attending the @bravemakerfilmfest . Church Hat the animated short film, adapted from my children's book of the same name and brought to life spectacularly in stop motion hand crafted 2D paper puppetry by @micealodonnell will be premiering on Saturday July 11th. I'm so deeply grateful to @ericcotten for being such an incredible producer, and to the Bravemaker selection committee for including the film featuring the voices of @thesherylleeralph and @go_maximus , in this year's festival.

I am looking forward to screening the other fantastic films, attending the creative workshops, and really excited about attending the career retrospective event featuring acting legend @lodivadevine.

More to come. #AlwaysWriting #ArtWithoutAI #representationmatters #storyteller
