It’s all about that bond we have with our animals…

What started as a place to adopt dogs & cats, @hsccvt has progressed into an organization that focuses on the importance of the human/animal bond, through our slate of surrender prevention services and still, our adoption services.

In lieu of listing off all of our amazing services (which you can read about on our website, hsccvt.org), I wanted to share an experience I had last month working at the low-cost community health clinic. A young gentleman came into the clinic with his dog. He was on disability, and in an effort to find new housing, his dog needed a rabies shot, which was something he was unable to afford in the past. While his dog was in the clinic, we chatted about the challenges he’s faced due to his disabilities, especially during COVID—but one constant remained—it was him & his dog. Like so many of us, his dog was his light. “I don’t know what I’d do without her.” All the things we pet-owners have said in the past. The difference, though, was this was the first time his four-year old dog had been seen by a veterinarian, due to cost.

At HSCC, we recognize the importance of the human/animal bond, despite your housing, circumstances, or socio-economic status. Through our new low-cost community clinics and programs, we work to ensure people don’t need to make the difficult decision to give up their pets.
