POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It started with 10 sponsored entries. Then, naturally, things got a little competitive.
When Retouching Academy offered to sponsor 10 retouchers from its community for ROTY, it gave us an idea.

What if other retouching communities did the same?

Back 10 of their own. Put them forward for ROTY. And compete as a community as well as individually.

So, we asked a few friends in the industry to help us start The Great Retouching Battle by throwing the first gauntlets.

From here, there is only one way into the Battle.

Another community has to challenge you.
If you accept, you back your 10 and join the Battle.
Then the gauntlet is yours to throw.

Let’s see where it lands next.

Goodbye Summer!

From spending time exploring Philly with @danceboissiere, going to the Universal Theme Park Exhibition at the Franklin Institute, hanging with the pups in the city, and getting a signed copy of Frank Miller's new book from the legend himself (thanks to the tickets procured from my best bud @nandoism) it was a Summer to remember.

I guess it's time to put the Summer clothes away and start breaking out the flannel! 🪓 🍁 🪵

Why Is A Key Art Designer On The Jury? It’s a fair question.

Retoucher of the Year isn’t only about beauty, fashion, product retouching, or colour grading.

One of our categories, Alchemist, is dedicated to compositing and visual creation.

And compositing requires more than Photoshop skills.

Storytelling, atmosphere, the ability to take multiple elements that were never meant to belong together and make them feel like they always did.

That’s why we invited Eric Vasquez to the jury. @ericvasquez84

Over the last 16 years, Eric has worked across key art, entertainment design, branding, compositing, creative direction, and campaign development for companies including Nickelodeon, WWE, MLB, SYFY, A+E Networks, HGTV, and many others.

But his perspective goes beyond the Alchemist category.

As part of the judging process, we will also review PSD files across categories, looking at workflow, masking quality, layer structure, organisation, non-destructive techniques, and technical execution.

These are skills that often separate good work from professional work.

Having someone who has spent years building complex composites, campaigns, and production-ready files brings another valuable perspective to the judging panel.

That’s the perspective Eric brings to the jury.

And that’s exactly why we wanted him involved.

Registration is open.

✨Thanks for all the love on MDLN part 1. Here’s part 2! I had so much fun choreographing the patterns and setting up the shots for this video. The pre-production really set us up to get the overhead shots and different angles. Editing was A JOY because I had so many good takes to use ✨

📣 Oh and choreographers and dance friends, if you have some footage you need edited, I would love to help you 💕

Thank you to @gennamattana and @s_hillmon for working with me and dancing for me when I can’t!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been fascinated by the art of title sequences. They set the tone, establish the world, and invite the viewer on a journey that clues them in on what they are about to experience.

I always told myself I needed to learn more, or wait for the ‘perfect’ moment when a studio would commission me to build one from scratch. But about a month ago, I decided to stop waiting for permission.

And as a Key Art designer, I am used to telling a story in a single frame.

That challenge is what made me want to start learning After Effects 6-7 years ago. I saw an amazing opportunity to expand my skill set. I went from telling a story on a poster to developing animated key art and my own cinematic title sequences.

I wanted to see if I could build a premium title sequence right at home in my living room - without any AI tools, giant agency budget, or any fragmented pipelines.

Today, I’m excited to share the first piece of that project: the OBLIVION title sequence.

With the help of my wife, a talented Movement Director, we captured our own assets with custom lighting, costumes, and props on a green screen, and combined my 16+ years of network and agency Creative Direction under one roof.

We handled every single step ourselves - from the asset capture to compositing, motion tracking, type design, color grading, and editing. We bypassed the traditional processes of larger, slower timelines usually seen in entertainment.

This sequence is just one piece of a larger OBLIVION 360 campaign that I’ll be rolling out over the coming weeks to show how a focused, agile, and experienced team can build something massive right at home.

One unified vision. Zero fragmented teams. One hundred percent HUMAN.

Ever notice how some entertainment campaigns feel disconnected? The static poster on your feed rarely matches the energy of the trailer on your screen.

That is exactly what happens when print and motion departments are completely siloed, resulting in bloated budgets, endless alignment meetings, and diluted, inconsistent creative.

For our latest studio project OBLIVION, @jenny_boissiere and I wanted to push back against that trend and prove there is a sharper, more efficient way to build a blockbuster campaign.

We merged Creative Direction with Movement Direction to run an entire campaign pipeline under one roof.

We didn’t just type prompts into a generator. In fact, our goal with this campaign is to keep it 1000% human without using any AI at all.

To do this, we directed the physical movement, captured our own high-end photography in-house, designed the teaser and the hero theatrical poster, and hand animated the living version of the artwork.

By thinking about static print design and motion continuity simultaneously from the very first frame, we completely bypassed the traditional agency bottlenecks:

✅ No fragmented communication between departments.

✅ Cohesive lighting, branding, and design across every asset.

✅ A less expensive way to produce high-quality campaign assets that people will remember.

Streaming clients, independent filmmakers, podcast networks, and creative agencies: You don’t need a massive, fragmented army of vendors to build an iconic visual identity. You just need a smarter strategy that keeps human craft at the heart of the campaign.

We are officially booking upcoming campaign collaborations. Hit the link in my bio or slide into the DMs to talk about how we can bring your next project to life. 🚀

Stay tuned - More pieces of the full OBLIVION campaign are on the way soon!

Zero prompts. Zero generative shortcuts. 100% human craft. 🏜️

In a world of big budget shoots, I've seen the same mistake over and over: A hard drive full of thousands of frames, but zero story. Poses that are static, lifeless, and leave the design team "fixing it in post."

We’re on a mission to change that with our latest project: OBLIVION.

To create this campaign, we didn’t just take photos. We used a unified production workflow to tell a story rather than simply capturing a pose.

1️⃣ Movement Direction: I collaborated with my wife @danceboissiere (who also happens to be an amazingly talented Movement Director) to ensure every movement or shift in weight meant something before I even opened Photoshop.

2️⃣ Story-Driven Design: Using narrative backstory and professional lighting to turn a home studio into a cinematic landscape.

3️⃣ No AI. No prompts. No generative shortcuts. Just human creativity, thoughtful direction, and high end design.

This teaser poster is just the beginning.

We are currently building out the full campaign ranging from static and living key art to a full title sequence in order to show how this flexible and agile workflow actually moves the needle.

Full campaign and case study coming soon! 🎬

Three years ago, I was laid off for the last time.

In some ways, it felt like I was losing my seat at the table, but today? I built my own.

When I was let go three years ago, I was faced with an important decision: look for a new job, or build something of my own.

I chose the latter.

Transitioning from in-house to independent isn’t just about a change in business address. It’s also a shift in perspective. It’s about betting on yourself, and it's the difference between simply executing a brief and identifying a business problem before the brief is even written.

Today is a really special, full circle moment for me as I’ve officially moved into my new office space in Harlem.

As I reflect on the last three years of grinding and working for myself, I want to make it known that I’m not just a 'pair of hands' waiting for instructions. I’m a partner who challenges the brief, asks the hard questions, and treats your business goals as my own.

As I settle into the new HQ, I’m opening capacity for partners who value working directly with a business owner who delivers with speed and agility. I’m also finalizing my M/WBE status to better support corporate partners with diversity mandates.

If you’re looking for a creative force that bridges the gap between high-level strategy and technical execution, I'd love to chat.

I’ve been sharing my drawing journey with the 30 day drawing challenge, but I wanted to take it even further by heading to Lower East Side Printshop and making some prints of one of my favorite comic characters- Wolverine.

I started with the line art using a 2B pencil and then built up the values. From there I went over the lines with Micron pens and scanned it into Photoshop so I could boost the contrast.

Once I was happy with the contrast I printed it out on transparent paper and burned the image onto a screen with emulsion.

After prepping the screen I began making my prints with blue ink (X-Men vibes) and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

Check out the full process video to see how this progressed from a sketch to a finished screen print!

And if you liked this one, then I can’t wait to share what I’m cooking up next. 😈🤘🏼🎨
