$running over the same old ground, what have we foooouund? the same old fears... wish you were here. 📸: Hannah Kestner (1), Carlee McAfee (5) going into this season, I knew it was gonna be really rough on my body, and why it would be. but I wanted to prove to myself that I was capable of being a dancer, something I had always wanted to do. I never see anyone talk about what it's like to march after having an eating disorder, so here we are. I hope that if someone reading this is struggling now like I was in middle/high school, they can have hope for the future and know that things DO!! GET!! BETTER!!! over 5 years of wreaking havoc on my insides with food or lack thereof has a lot more long term effects than i thought it would. I'm several years into recovery now, but the longer you have a disorder like this, the longer it takes for your body to fully recover. I have pretty evident muscle weakness, so no matter how much strength training I do, it takes FOREVER to make any progress. no matter how much protein I eat, I still have a reduced body weight and muscle composition. my metabolism is so fast that I have to eat something almost every hour or else I get reeeeally dizzy. years of that loss of nutrients and electrolytes necessary for optimal health leads to the breakdown of muscles and the inability to build and repair damage to muscle tissue. so every time the brakes or sandbags didn't work or the floor was wonky or my ankle gave out and I fell off a prop, any injury that came from it was way harsher than it would be on the average person and took longer to heal; hooray for increased risk of musculoskeletal injuries! I honestly have no idea how I didn't break anything; I have a bone fracture risk that is 7 times higher than the risk seen in healthy women my same age. the same thing goes for my immune system; whenever I have a cold or a virus it always lasts for over a week and is literally the worst thing ever!!
