On Monday we unexpectedly lost our girl Pashmak. Friday would have been her 6th birthday.

When we got Pashmak, we were reeling from the devastation of a canceled production and COVID. She brought so much life and joy into our home. One year later we had Nima, and I assumed we had many more years to watch them grow up together.

With pets, you know you will eventually have to say goodbye. But when they feel like a daughter, a sibling, who died too young, saying goodbye is especially gutting.

We love you and your licks and your cuddles, Pashy. Always. Hope you can finally eat some chicken in doggy heaven 🍗

I AM BEING A GOOD BOY.

This is a series of childhood Christmas lists I rediscovered in my mother’s basement this fall. It’s cute that Karla kept them all these years, and with them a series of surprising memories I’d un-remembered until now.

On the first: a record of an early love for dinosaurs I didn’t know I’d had. And a request for Power Rangers underwear that seems to be checked off. Honestly, this list holds up.

The second: a testament to my SELFLESS nature and undying love for my brother. I hope he got the stickers he so obviously deserved.

Third: a strange adoration for Vixen, specifically?

And Fourth: an imaginative response penned by my father (with remarkable penmanship) in the voice of Vixen. A talented storyteller in his own right.

2024 was full of bangers, growth, and goodbyes.

-We saw Googoosh live!

-New last name who dis 💅

-We produced Nahal’s new play in Chicago OKAY.

-We witnessed the beautiful union of Kousha and Elise at an absolute barn-burner in New Orleans.

- We casually MOVED TO CHICAGO OKAY.

- I said goodbye to my beautiful Nana.

- We took Nima to 4,000 playgrounds.

-Between Nima and Pashmak we cleaned up 4,000 poops.

- I got promoted and won two fancy work awards (promotion to CEO pending but eminent) (when I get luigi’d as CEO I will accept my fate as a necessary step of the revolution)

- We made memories with great friends, all of whom are honorary aunts and uncles.

- Most importantly, I bowled a 206.

Next year, I am going to lock in: 2025 is the year I finally learn how to read and write.

Tonight’s the night! Only a few short months ago, we were talking about a simple staged reading of a then-unwritten play. “No more than 30 pages,” Nahal estimated. Well, 73 tenderly-typewritten pages later here we are! We’ve got lights, and sound, and the image that inspired it all: a green glass door. It’s been an honor to help Nahal manifest these moments from her mind onto the stage, and now we’re so excited to share it with you all this weekend. Evening performances are filling up, but there are still tickets available for tomorrow’s matinee! Follow the link in our bio to reserve your tickets.

Having a blast with this incredible cast! During this week’s rehearsals; Joan, Adam, and Antonio have brought such heart, humor, and humanity to Nahal’s characters. And now performances are just one week away! Reserve your pay-what-you-want tickets now for “The Unknown Variable,” March 29 and 30 only. (Link in bio).
