I am so grateful. I’m stepping away from the game I know and love so well with an overwhelming sense of completion and fulfillment. My biggest concern coming into this year was that I would look back and wish I did more, and I’m happy to say that’s not the case. I have cherished every opportunity, each and every individual that has come into my life in these last four years, my teammates who I consider my brothers, and the memories made in the process. There will truly never be another chapter in my life that resembles anything close to the what I have here. Being able to wake up every morning and live, succeed, fall short, endure struggle, experience both loss and pure joy, and grow each and every day with the family I have around me is truly a blessing from the Lord.

I have been guided into building a strong foundation for my future through my family, friends, coaches, but most importantly, my faith in Jesus Christ. Paul the Apostle writes, β€œYou were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22-24). Through this, the light of change that will last with you for eternity starts to form in your heart and in your actions, and as the circumstances of my life change, I know I will be brought to where I am called to be.

Finally, I want to give one last show of appreciation to my parents, who bent over backwards for me day in and day out to shape me into the ball player and young man I am today. I am forever in debt to you two for your limitless love and support.

17 years later and it’s finally time to hang them up. I’m not sure that it’s fully set in yet that it’s all over but it’s been such a fun experience throughout my life. I have grown so much as a player, but more importantly, I have grown as a man. Through baseball, I have learned how to face adversity and overcome that adversity both on and off the field. It has taught me so much about discipline, preparation, and my overall mindset. I have met some of my closest friends and have played for some amazing coaches that have played huge roles in developing me into the man I am today. They have helped me improve athletically, academically, and helped me learn and grow in my faith with the Lord.

One of my favorite bible verses that I found this year and wish I found sooner is Micah 7:8, β€œDo not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.” We all face challenges whether we are athletes or not. Some are minor setbacks and some are major but they don’t define who we are. It is not permanent and we have to find ways to be resilient. When we may think we are in the darkest place of our lives or we just don’t know what to do, lean on the Lord. Pray to Him and be okay with being vulnerable because these challenges and setbacks are only temporary and we will eventually find that light again and find that happiness with the help of Him.

Lastly, I want to shout out my parents. The sacrifices that were made to help me become a collegiate athlete do not go unnoticed. You guys have done so much for me to shape me into who I am and I can’t thank you guys enough. The skills you have taught me will help me in enormous ways in navigating this next stage of my life.
