EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHT: "OPEN TABS" at Studio Hanniball 📍

STUDIO HANNIBALL presents "OPEN TABS", a group exhibition bringing together works by Paula Breuer, Philipp Ernst, Maria Hummer, Paula Hummer, Joachim Lenz, Kevin Lowenthal, Paul Mecky, Alice Peach, David Schiesser, and Babette Semmer.

Key highlights of the exhibition include:

Theme & Conceptual Framework: Written by Ricardo Domeneck, the curatorial text explores the evolution of the workplace—from ancient survival and agricultural plots to the modern rise of offices, "Büros", and digital hyperconnectivity. The show investigates how the boundaries between work, rest, home, and public life have blurred into a state of perpetual "open tabs".

Diverse Media & Artistic Voices: The exhibition features a wide array of mediums—including figurative oil paintings of urban or domestic routines by Philipp Ernst and Babette Semmer, conceptual mirror installations with post-it motifs by Maria Hummer, mixed-media sculptures and wall pieces by Paula Hummer and Alice Peach, as well as fine art prints, drawings, and textile works.

Exploring Modern Alienation: Through varied visual languages, the artworks reflect on how capitalist practices, digital intimacy, and constant accessibility reframe our daily spaces, environments, and relationships.

„Who has never heard someone say: my whole life is in my phone?
This has already caused a major blurring between the private and public spheres, between the home and the office. The clear separation between work and rest disappears when a person can be reached by a boss at anytime, anywhere, unless specific rules are determined. Humans conduct business from their dinner table. They close deals from airplane seats. They solve work problems during a romantic date. Every second of our waking time becomes an opportunity for work.“

2023/2025

will be on view in Kraków this week.

pieced this so far unseen video together from footage i recorded 2023 in Biesenthal, and sounds i recorded 2025 in Kalbe. somewhat naive teenage tactics, and somewhat a goodbye to them. i always wanted to make a video like this, even though i knew i kinda wasn't supposed to. grainy image and love topics, you know... it's mostly how you can practice/preach all you want, in the end there's still some unexpected obstacle that gets in the way of love, or power imbalances, and everything crashes and burns.

special thanks @kuenstlerstadtkalbe for giving me room and peace of mind to edit this last summer.

btw Kalbe and Biesenthal both are rural, depopulated villages in east germany. i think it's cool they invite artists to visit. i loved being there. if you read so far, and don't know about these places yet, consider reading up on them, their art projects, their history and the upcoming election in Sachsen-Anhalt. there are so many great people organizing beyond great cities and it's really important what they do.

“Fire and Flame” – derived from the german phrase “Feuer und Flamme”; A term used to describe great passion, drive, conviction, reward and cockiness.“The things I’m passionate about” – a sentence worth thinking about. In a time characterized by the dogma of productivity, efficiency and logic, in which we are at the mercy and subject of its demands, it is particularly important and exciting to return to moral, political and hedonistic convictions and to expose the capitalist system of exploitation and its values - and to boycott it. The question of where I fit in, where I break out, what I stand for and what subtle or theatrical means I use to do this offers a very wide field of tension that will include a wide variety of positions.
