This week’s Feature Friday Brother is....
BROTHER ALAN 🤩🤩🤩🤩

Name: Alan Ruelas
Major: Communications with a concentration in Public Relations
Year: 3rd Year MSI Fellow

Proudest accomplishment:
Alan tells us that his continued efforts in higher education would be his proudest accomplishment. As a first generation man of color within the [pride] community, Alan has faced many obstacles during his academic career and much of it has been mental. Imposters syndrome has been a continuous battle among other mental health [endeavors], but he says that he is learning from life along the way so he is grateful for that.

What do you like to do in your free time?
During his free time Brother Alan likes to do a lot like going to the gym, continuing his education, staying active on social media, and spending time with family. Sometimes it's hard to narrow it down but no matter what he does, “...it is with an emphasis on self-care with a focus on me!” he said laughingly.

What is the most memorable moment that aligned you with the career path you chose?
Brother Alan was actually introduced to the field of entertainment at a fairly young age:

“My aunt was a private photographer for Lupillo Rivera and I had the chance of being brought up to the stage at one concert. From here on I aspired to be in these areas and hopefully get to cultivate a business while helping others.”

Can you give me a fun fact about yourself? Something a lot of people may not know about you.
“I have a sweet spot for fashion. I enjoy modeling for fun but fashion is something a lot of people may not know about me. I’ve had the dream of doing runaways and though I haven't been in any official events, I am working towards it.”

If you could give advice to someone pursuing something similar, or in general, what would you say to them?
Brother Alan offers his best advice in engaging with others.

“I would say to build a community. Engagement and networking is HUGE. That's been my goal while at CSUF but experience is always good, too. That is what I'm trying to do on a larger scale with my new ASI Communications Commission position starting this summer.”
