Women should be able to go for a run without being harassed.

We showed Esmée a video of an Emily Fairs being shouted at while running and asked her what could be done to stop it.

Her response was simple: what is a woman supposed to do in that situation?

And she’s right. Why should women have to change their routes, what they wear or when they run just to feel safe?

This isn’t a problem women should be expected to solve. It’s something men need to take responsibility for.

Call out your mates. Challenge the behaviour. Stop treating it as harmless banter.

Everyone deserves to feel safe doing something as simple as going for a run.

Men, time for us to stand up.

That run club you’re too nervous to join? @esmee_ldn gets scared walking in too 👀

New faces. Feeling awkward. Worrying you won’t keep up. Sound familiar?

You don’t have to wait until you feel confident to show up.

Send this to your “I’ll come next week” mate 🏃‍♀️

What a fab day out at my home race 💛🇳🇱
A bit lat minute as I was gifted a bib by a #fearless friend 🙏😉💜
Kept it quiet as I really wasn’t sure I could make it!
But I found lots of friendly faces along the way and had a ball!!
A big shout to all the spectators and cheer squad today as it was pretty miserable weather out there.😱
Especially @jess_birkin22 @trainerlorna @irisheyes1982 @katejdriessen .

Next stop Malaga in 3 weeks time and the BIG ONE in Paris next April. 🙏🇫🇷

‘I had to learn to walk again…’ Now I’ve completed 5,000km in 99 days 🏃‍♀️

Esmée Gummer @esmee_ldn is an athlete, speaker and now a Guinness World Record holder - for hosting the most run clubs in different UK cities.

Across 99 days, she ran between every city in the UK and hosted free 5K clubs in each one - in a project she called The Nation’s 5K challenge.

Esmée joined @itsanitarani on Woman’s Hour to share how it felt to break the World Record (with 77 run clubs), particularly after having to re-learn how to walk as a teenager.

When she was 18, Esmée woke up paralysed from the waist down following complications during a routine surgery.

You can listen to the full interview on @bbcsounds - it’s the Woman’s Hour episode from 15 October 🎧
