At eleven, I thought there was a right way to look Black—and that I was failing at it.

This is the opening of “Can You Talk Black?” adapted from my memoir, PLEASE COME HOME, and read live at DRAFTS by @essaystheshow

Do you remember the first time someone asked you to explain what you were?

You don’t have to be a performer to have a story worth telling.

On Oct 17, Sweet Antelope’s Storytelling Supper Club is teaming up with @essaystheshow , LA’s live essay series, for a night of unforgettable stories, cocktails and farm to table dinner.

Gather in the garden for cocktails and bar bites and listen to a story by our guest performer. Then we reveal the theme and sit down to a four-course meal built around that week’s harvest, where the conversation becomes yours.

No one is put on the spot. Storytelling is an invitation, not an expectation so tell a story, add a thought, or just listen.

📍 West Adams, LA (address sent when you book)

What’s a story you’d tell at a table full of strangers?.
