I can’t believe I’m already over halfway through my Pilates course with @esseeducation
Here’s a little glimpse into my journey and some of the moments that have felt most magical so far. ✨

From understanding movement in a whole new way to working through those “who am I to teach?” moments, this course has challenged me in ways I didn’t expect.

If you’ve been thinking about doing a Pilates course, listen to that little nudge. It took me so long to finally jump in, and now I wish I’d backed myself sooner.

Still learning, still finding my feet, and bringing my sass along for the ride. 🤍

Effective, feel good and very repeat worthy ✨

Years on and these are still some of my go-to staple movements. It’s often less about reinventing and more about exploring different ways to advance, regress and transition.

If you love your clients (or yourself) you should be rinsingggg these!

side bend > pike w needle thread

side lying variation one: the longer your body length, the deeper the challenge (this is where understanding lever length is so important!!)

alt single leg table top + single arm narrow row (elevated on ball, ouch 🥴)

knee hover oblique twists + shoulder press

side plank leg lift + row into overhead. BRUTAL 😚

oblique focused crouching tiger

kneeling narrow row (wide grip) + overhead sweeps

side lying variation two

front facing crouching tiger

side kneeling oblique crunch

This week we got to play in the studio and bring what we have learned over the past 7 weeks with @esseeducation to the mat and reformer bed. I met with the beautiful @acaciatsek who is also on the course with me and we got to connect and share what we are learning, how we have been feeling and she got to show me some of her talents!!

Knowing exercises is not knowing movement.

Understanding the intention behind it. What you’re looking for in individuals. What you’re changing and why that is. How to progress, regress and adapt to the person in front of you.

Understanding deeply enough to teach to the room, not to the plan.

Confidence comes from backing yourself because you know no matter what, you trust your knowledge and judgement - very difficult to do when you don’t truly understand your craft.

That is the difference between fast tracked and comprehensive training (& learning from someone who uses hand gestures in overdrive 🙋🏽‍♀️)

My journey and my why 🥹

Over the years building @essepilates, we watched the industry standard become more and more inconsistent.

So many newly qualified trainers held a certificate, with no confidence to back what they knew or how to execute it.

Self doubt and hesitation comes from not feeling equip, skilled or prepared enough.

A clear indication of info overload (probably outdated info, too), and no human to human guidance around it.

If becoming an instructor is on your radar, my advice is to really think about where it is you see yourself, and make sure the course you invest in genuinely aligns with not only the way you want to learn, but the kind of trainer you want to become.

Confidence is the very thing you can’t actually teach someone how to have…but you can create an environment that gives them every reason to feel empowered enough to find it within themselves.

That is my why 🖤

I wanted a no BS experience when I started my mat and reformer Pilates training. I didn’t want someone to sugarcoat it or just tell me what I wanted to hear.

Training with @esseeducation has stirred up more emotions than I expected. It’s challenged the way I think about becoming a teacher, and Week 4 has been a real game changer.

I’m experiencing reformer differently now. I’m noticing the choices behind a class, the way movement is taught, and how much thought goes into helping people feel supported while they’re being challenged.

In this Week 4 video, I’m talking about the imposter syndrome that’s come up alongside all of that. I’m learning a lot, questioning myself a lot, and slowly realising that both can be part of becoming a teacher.
