17 years. That’s how long Barbados went without Large Mas costumes at Crop Over, until this year.

While everyone was watching Rihanna and Spice cross the stage at Grand Kadooment, I was locked in on something else, costumes we hadn’t seen since 2009. As a judge on the panel that reviewed these bands, I got a front row seat to their return.

Huge respect to the six designers and their teams who brought this to life:

Neil Stanley — Queen of Crop Over
Gordon Ashby — Harding’s Fiery March (Mr. Harding)
Carla Gittens — Kaiso, Kaiso

Wayne Smith and Adrian Burnett — Continuum: Folklore to Future (Barbados at 60)

Those of us who remember Cohobblopot in the 90s/2000’s know what these large costumes can be, hoping we see even more in 2027.

Its most definitely spring and my Easter schedule starts back this Wednesday. I’ve missed the sunshine here in Barbados, and while the cherry blossom and spring daffs were out in force in London I’m really looking forward to seeing the mango blossoms🥭🥭🥭 and getting back to my deck with Mash and Ted. Here’s whats lined up:

🌞 Tuesday: Start your day with Surya Flow at 6:30 AM! Let’s soak in that morning sunshine together!
🧘‍♀️ Wednesday: Join me for Rasa Yoga Flow - 60mins at 5:30 PM. It’s the perfect way to unwind midweek!
🌅 Thursday: We’ll be back at it with another Surya Flow at 6:30 AM—can’t wait to see your smiling faces!
🧘‍♂️ Saturday: Don’t miss our extended Rasa Yoga session (90 minutes) at 9:30 AM. You’ll leave feeling amazing!

✨ theres another opportunity to experience the magic of Radiant Dawn this Saturday at 5:30 AM! We’ll dive into a beautiful practice of Pranayama, Namaskars, Gayatri Chanting, Meditation and enjoy some relaxation with Indian Pond Cacao. It’s going to be a special experience! 🌙

📚🚌 My First Bookish Bus Tour

On February 8th and 15th this year, @bridgetownliterarytours took me on my first bookish Bus Tour and it was time well spent.

This Bridgetown Literary Bus Tour took us to 15 memorable locations all connected Barbadian authors.

This heritage initiative was created by Esther Phillips, Poet Laureate of Barbados & Literary Ambassadors and ArtsEtc in association with Writers Ink Inc.

This was a bus tour and a history lesson for me - it was memorable.

After the Bus tour, I returned to Golden Square for the Literary Boutique where I spent time chatting and laughing with:

Whichever way you want to slice it, we need to seriously look at increasing the amount of food waste separation. The quantity of methane being produced by the food scraps going to landfill is far too high. If small island developing states want to be taken seriously about climate change resilience, it is about time to invest in the people, and the education system to make people understand what ya granmurrh would say,"There is a time and place for everything." Also, starting to "clean up after ourselves" can't be a bad thing.

What is your take? Do you think we can do it?

All suggestions will be taken on, but be prepared to show working!

Last Tuesday, on #WorldBookDay, book lovers, #Barbadianauthors, and other specially invited guests attended Shelf Indulgence at Pages Bookstore @bridgetown_dutyfree in Bridgetown.

We had an amazing evening being together, chatting, meeting people, and browsing the shelves.

📚 Book Swap 📚 Part 1

Donna of @chaptersnconversations and the Ubutu Book Club hosted A Book Swap here in Barbados on April 6th.

It was awesome! Adults and children came out and got their books; bookish friendships were created and we had an amazing time talking about books.

This was Donna’s first bookish event for 2024 and there are many more to come. Trust me on this.

Reporting to you from the Radish Patch!

This past weekend, we got called out to share some information on what Live Earth is about...helping folks to make better decisions about how best to help the environment AND make our daily lives a little better

The community of Husbands, Barbados has a very dedicated group of women who have pledged to grow their own food...and if you want to do so organically, well you ought to be doing compost, which 8s where Live Earth comes in.

The ladies asked lots of great questions, and in a lively session, we were able to learn from each other and as they,"Each one, teach one", as now they will share the good news on composting with neighbors, friends and family!
