Renault Twingo 2022

I was delighted to be asked by @romain_chassaing and @solab_films to join them for three nights of shooting in Paris.

Much as I love a studio car shoot, it’s good to film the damn things when they are actually moving - though Paris isn’t the easiest of cities to do location shoots in as you can’t use a generator and there are all kinds of restrictions.

One of our locations was Rue de Rivoli, on our tech scout I noticed a huge advertising billboard with Catherine Deneuve toting a handbag which would provide an excellent light source to be reflected on the body of the black car.

Naturally, on the night of that part of shoot the billboard had been turned off, furthermore the area was chockablock with emergency workers doing a Metro disaster rehearsal, for which a huge amount of smoke-machines had been employed.

@mikaelmonod took the battery-powered moving lights, that we’d been using for the handsome boy drummer shot, up the street and aimed them at the poster to get the desired effect on the Twingo.

By the way, in the cafe scene Double D Danny Dittmann timed the shots so we’d get the overground Metro trains going through the background.

Merci.

Set Link Nano is an ethernet bridge based on wifi halow technology. In Europe, it uses the frequency range of 863-868mhz, allowing for long range stable communications. To simplify, it acts as an “air cable”. Set Link Nanos do not appear on your network and it will seem as if the ethernet device is plugged in straight into your switch or device.

It boots in 6 seconds and the expected range is 100+ meters in line of sight (tested up to 2km) and 30-100m with obstacles depending on environment. Don’t expect “magical” results but do expect massive range improvement and stability over regular 2.4/5ghz wifi. Bandwidth expectations is from 5mbps to 1mbps depending on quality of reception.

Set Link Nano the perfect companion for controling/livegrading cameras on set from a distance.
