Following the film's success, several sequels were released, Culkin became a household name, and the film and its sequels were adapted into video games. Filming took place between February and May 1990 in various locations throughout Illinois. The film was originally intended for distribution by Warner Bros., but was transferred to Twentieth Century Fox when director Hughes exceeded Warner's $10 million budget limit. The film premiered in Chicago on November 10, 1990, and opened nationwide on November 16, 1990, grossing an estimated $476.7 million. It held the record for the highest-grossing comedy film of all time until it was surpassed by Hangover Part II in 2011. The film received two Golden Globe nominations: Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Culkin. It also received two Academy Award nominations : Best Original Score for John Williams and Best Original Song for " Somewhere in My Memory ." The film's success led to a sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, released in 1992, the only installment in the franchise to feature most of the original cast #film #alone #weather #nature #peace
