@utcommstudies student Ethan Thompson is interning at @ut_system this summer as a board of regents intern! In this role, he’s helping create operational efficiencies by analyzing current processes and identifying technological solutions to streamline workflows, primarily working alongside the general counsels for the Board.

“I’ve learned just how expansive the UT System really is and how much coordination it takes to keep it running,” he says. “Getting to see the day-to-day work of general counsels has been eye-opening as a pre-law student.”

Throughout the internship, Ethan has leaned heavily on the skills he’s developed at #TEXASMoody—particularly his strong communication and writing abilities. “I’ve written reports on proposed changes to the Regents’ Rules and Regulations and collaborated with many different people. Moody prepared me not just through classes but also through supportive faculty and pre-professional organizations that helped me walk into this internship feeling confident and ready.”

This summer has also given Ethan the chance to reflect on his passion for learning and drive to make a difference. “This experience has shown me how many paths there are to success at UT and how important it is to stay open to all of them.”

His summer artists are MkGee, Teezo Touchdown and James Brown! He’s also diving into books by Banana Yoshimoto and James Baldwin. As he heads into his junior year, Ethan is especially excited to serve as Vice President of the Senate of College Councils and continue building his legacy on the Forty Acres—while soaking up every moment because, as he puts it, “college flies by.”
