Zef (V14/8B+) with Type 1 Diabetes

At some point last summer, my body started shutting down. I felt slow and irritated daily. I got constant cramps and couldn’t sleep through the night. At one point I was consuming 5000 calories and 2 gallons of water a day and losing weight. After a doomed trip to Index where I spent the whole day napping, I finally got diagnosed with T1D with A1C over 15%.

What followed was easily the lowest point in my life. I had to adjust to daily insulin injections, constant low and high blood sugar alarms, and the residual effects from going undiagnosed for so long. My body fell apart, undergoing many injuries and weight fluctuations. Brain fog from high A1C got me in an accident that totaled my car. Focused on just trying to survive, I didn’t think I would ever climb my hardest again.

When I did get back to training, the setbacks were clear. This winter I couldn’t climb V10 in the gym, but after months of dialing my insulin and diet, I started to feel like myself again and the fitness slowly returned. There were a lot of points along the way when I thought I should quit and move on, but some part of me needed to get back to my peak.

Last night I finally pushed through. While I still have to manage T1D for the rest of my life, sending Zef proves it doesn’t need to be a ceiling.

Indescribably happy to stand on top of this one, especially after many years of dreaming of it, and many long drives from Denver to Lander. Going to remember that feeling forever :)
