After a couple long weeks of teaching workshops, art exhibitions, art openings, and participating in a couple of festivals, Labor Day evening gave us something even more valuable, family time. ❤️

With our young people home from college breaks and Ethan home from the United States Air Force, the whole family was together: my wife and I, Erica and her boyfriend Sean, and Ethan and his girlfriend Asia. We spent the evening together over pizza, laughing, talking, catching up, and simply enjoying one another’s company.

As busy as life can get, moments like this remind me that the greatest treasure is family.

Family. Love. Togetherness. That’s what Labor Day was really about for us. ❤️🍕

Today I sold a collage painting that is especially dear to my heart: “Art Museum Visit.”

When Erica and Ethan were young, my flexible schedule allowed me the incredible opportunity to spend a great deal of time with them. We explored together visiting Marbles Kids Museum, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, and especially the North Carolina Museum of Art. Those experiences became treasured memories and inspired me to create this collage.

“Art Museum Visit” represents the importance of introducing children to the arts at an early age.

Today, this piece found a new home with a discerning collector who was captivated not only by the image, but by the story behind it. The idea of sharing art and creativity with the next generation.

Looking back, I can see the impact those experiences had. My son Ethan developed into a talented musician who plays multiple instruments, and my daughter Erica became an accomplished young visual artist. Exposure to creativity opened doors for them and helped shape who they are today.

Invest in your children. Invest in experiences. Invest in art.

Ever Upwards, Eric McRay

As many of you know, our son, Ethan is currently serving as a recruit in the United States Air Force and completing Basic Military Training in Texas at Lackland Air Force Base.

For the past two months, communication has been limited. We've only spoken with him by phone three times, and most of our updates have come through handwritten letters. A real throwback to another era! Through those letters, we've followed his journey from the challenges of basic training to some truly impressive accomplishments.

I'm happy to share that Ethan graduates next week!

He has passed all of his tests, earned Marksman classification with the M4 rifle, and is excelling physically. His endurance, speed, push-up, and sit-up scores are among his strengths. He says he's in the best shape of his life, getting leaner, stronger, and more focused every day, and still attends church weekly.

His confidence, discipline, and sense of purpose have grown tremendously. As parents, we couldn't be prouder of the man he is becoming and the path he has chosen.

We look forward to celebrating his graduation next week and the beginning of the next chapter in his Air Force journey.

AIM HIGH,
Eric McRay 🇺🇸

Congratulations to our daughter, Erica, on being hired as the Summer Art Camp Coordinator Intern at Artspace in Raleigh, NC!

As a father, moments like this fill my heart with pride.

What makes this achievement especially meaningful is that Artspace is a place where she grew up, learned, created, and found inspiration. To now return and serve the next generation of young artists is a beautiful full-circle moment.

I've watched Erica's dedication, hard work, and passion for the arts grow over the years, and it's rewarding to see those efforts recognized through this opportunity.

Erica, your mother and I are incredibly proud of you. Keep growing, keep creating, and keep making a positive impact on the community that helped shape you.

Ever Upwards, Dad ❤️🎨
