The best teachers are those who show you where to look but don’t tell you what to see.

I drive an hour to Drummoyne at 6.30 every Tuesday morning for Training. One of the best parts of my week.

Full room today. Ethan from Bondi. Charlie from Chatswood. Mark from Chatswood. Cooper from Neutral Bay. Dane from Drummoyne. Athan, from Drummoyne . Raf from Dee Why. And Joey, who I’ve known since he was 12.

Nobody was over 21 & non of them have been cutting for more than two or three years.

We worked a square line with convex layers. Haircut two of five in the end of year program. Focusing on natural fall, section angles, & predictable movements.

Sixteen years of knowledge, and the job now is to condense it into one sentence that a 19 year old can use tomorrow.

Staff training #341

We had a lot of fresh faces at the Drummoyne session. This is our biggest and youngest training group.

This session was focused on the fundamentals, repeatable predictable movements that’ll lead to a predictable result.

SHAPE & COLOUR

No two heads, no two hair types are the same—so why cut them like they are?

I don’t fade by numbers, I fade by eye—working with tone, texture, and natural growth to create balance that actually suits the client.

TOOLS:-
@matsuihair - Art Of Precision Range
@depotmaletoolsau - 5.5 Scissor
@ysparkaustralia - Combs & Clips
@jrl.aus - 2020H Forte Pro Hair Dryer

1. Don’t expect yourself to be good at cutting hair so quickly. The more you expect yourself to pick things up fast, the less you actually do. Take your time and enjoy the process, no matter or short or long.

2. There is so much more to barbering than just cutting hair. One of the biggest things I’ve found is the community within in the industry, from apprentices, junior barbers, senior barbers, shop owners, educators etc. Take the chance to network and connect with one another. You never know where one random connection can take you.

3. There’s no exact right or wrong way to cut hair. From the time I was in The Barber Academy, I was taught one style of cutting hair and I thought that it was the best way. However, stepping into a barbershop taught me that there are so many different styles that still achieve the same result we’re all looking for; a good haircut. Don’t stagnate yourself and believe that the way you’re learning is the best/only way, especially if it’s something you’re struggling with. Try something different, who knows, it just might click with you.
