The Forty Rules of Love by @shafakelif.

What if love isn't meant to stay? What if some people are only meant to find you, change you, break you open... and then leave?
That's what this book is about!

It's a book about love in all its beautiful, painful, terrifying forms. The kind of love that doesn't just make you happy, but forces you to question everything you thought you knew about yourself, about God, about life, and about what it means to truly feel alive.

I loved the parallel between Ella and Aziz and Rumi and Shams. Watching Ella slowly realise how empty her life had become, while watching Rumi's entire world change after meeting Shams, was beautiful and painful in equal measure. And Shams... I don't even know how to explain him. He was infuriating, unconventional, unapologetic, and somehow deeply compassionate. He didn't teach Rumi how to love...he made him realise that he had never truly allowed himself to live.

But this book HURTS. Kimya's story especially stayed with me. There is something devastating about loving someone so deeply and knowing that your love cannot make them yours. And then there is the ending... Shams dies. Aziz dies. But somehow, neither love story feels meaningless. Because maybe love isn't always about getting to keep someone.
Maybe sometimes someone comes into your life, changes its entire shape, teaches you how to feel things you didn't know you were capable of feeling... and then leaves you with the impossible task of learning how to live without them.

I finished this book feeling strangely empty and full at the same time.
It made me think about how often we mistake love for attachment, comfort, habit, or fear of being alone. And how terrifyingly beautiful it is when someone makes you brave enough to choose a life that actually feels like yours.

Some books make you cry because something sad happens.
This one made me ache because it made me wonder if the greatest loves aren't always the ones that stay... but the ones that change us forever
