Story time! Permit me a moment to talk about something not directly art related. Anyone who’s known me for any period of time knows that I have a long and somewhat storied history with cars. At the age of 3 I could name pretty much anything on the road, and had a ridiculous collection of die-cast model cars. My dad is an engineer, my grandad was a mechanic (mostly aerospace but he worked on cars in his spare time, with my dad, his son-in-law), and I’ve always been a petrol head. My whole family love cars & I’ve grown up with some amazing machines around me. When I was a little girl, my mum had a black BMW 316i (E30) called Pudding that I *really* loved. I can remember the chenille interior vividly, and how my brother and I used to unpick the threads in the back seat… oops. From the moment that car left and was replaced, I knew that one day, I wanted an E30 of my own. I’ve been dreaming of it since then. That was circa 1993. I had several cars from the time I got my license in 2002, loved and enjoyed all of them, except the French monstrosity anyway but the less said about that the better. After my time in America, and a few less than ideal life events, I became completely consumed and subsequently crippled by anxiety and the worsening of long term chronic health conditions that both contributed to my stopping driving. The idea of getting in a car and driving it filled me with so much stomach churning fear that I just opted out entirely. No more independence, no more freedom, no more cars. It hurt. A lot. Now, I am by no means past all that, chronic pain is still an issue so I’m not gonna be relying on a manual as a daily driver any time soon, but I’ve been manifesting something for months, and I’ve been in therapy to try and move past the things that fuel that anxiety. Yesterday, I bit the bullet & agreed to buy my very first E30 BMW. She’ll be coming home next week and I am fucking giddy with excitement. She’s a blank canvas and I have so many plans. It’s gonna be a long road, for me and the car, but we’re finally on it. First up, a new bonnet badge & a stop-gap all black paint job 😎 #bmwlovers #bmwe30 #e30worldwide
