Surfing at 54 โ€”-> still Learning

The thing that keeps surfers in the water and psyched through old age is the fact that surfing will never get boring, it will always be exciting , challenging and super fun ๐Ÿ™Œโค๏ธ๐Ÿ™ Second ever frontside grab air ๐Ÿคช

Longevity ๐Ÿ”ฅ

One of the things that has helped me the most in the process of staying loose and limber is called @wingworktechnique I credit this work in allowing me to let go of trauma , unwind and lengthen the muscles , especially the psoas muscles in the stomach as they play a huge role in total body health. I have been practicing this art form for almost 30 years and I have started @wingworkartform to start documenting what it is and how it helps people live their best lives.

Backside Surfing

A very key ๐Ÿ”‘ technique in backside surfing g is what we call hand on deck. This means as you start your backside turn, which should start about 3/4 up the face of the wave , you bring your front arm down towards your board as you push your back foot through the turn. Bringing the front arm down puts your body in a great position and allows you to fit into the curve of the wave. Give it a try. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Wrap Carve โ€”โ€”>

This turn has been done for decades and I believe itโ€™s still relevant because of the underlying challenges of this technique. The subtleties that happen during this turn allow a lot of opportunities for mistakes, especially catching the heel side rail, which is why it feels so good when you get a clean line all the way through the turn. The compressed back leg before the turn is one of the major keys ๐Ÿ”‘

Grateful ๐Ÿ™

Perception is everything, whatever you tell yourself consistently will be your reality.. Probably for a lot of people out there, the last two years have been very challenging and one thing Iโ€™ve learned is to be grateful for everything, the ups, downs , wins , losses , good people and even horrible people you thought were good. All of these experiences mold and chisel us into who we are today and through it all, I feel truly blessed to be here now, psyched, grateful and excited for life โค๏ธ

Cutback / Wrap Carve

This is basically a hybrid move but wether you are doing either one, the compressed weight onto the back leg before the turn is the key ๐Ÿ”‘ Check out the moment before the carve and youโ€™ll see the back leg sink down right before. ๐Ÿ‘Œ
