ETH Zürich launch party issue 3.0 “Enchantment” @ethzarchitecture w/ @fredi_niels_official c. 2025

A silver textile wraps the gta’s iconic red Kiosk K67 by Saša J. Mächtig, transforming it, like a magician’s hat, into a prop from which to conjure forth magical effects, enchanting the lobby for the duration of the party.

Master Thesis topic is Schlieren, the highly heterogeneous agglomeration to the west of Zurich. Industrial relics, terrain vague, immigrant communities, affordable housing threatened by gentrification, old and new crash together. Great work!#

The Daylight Award 2026 ceremony will take place on Wednesday 27 May at the Danish Architecture Centre in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Do not miss the opportunity to watch the lectures by the Daylight in Architecture laureates, founders of Atelier Bow-Wow (JP), Momoyo Kaijima and Yoshiharu Tsukamoto.

Through an architecture deeply rooted in everyday life, Atelier Bow-Wow has demonstrated how daylight can shape meaningful relationships between people, buildings, and the city.

Their work carefully transforms dense urban conditions into spaces filled with openness, generosity, and connection to the surrounding environment.

The jury especially recognised their ability to use daylight as an active architectural element, bringing sensitivity, comfort, and awareness of changing natural conditions into contemporary living.

⏩ Join us tomorrow and watch the livestream of the award ceremony at 18:00 CEST via thedaylightaward.com!

Samstag, 18.04. – IDC an der ETH Zürich. 📍

Heimvorteile eben. 🇨🇭

LOMMEL

A JDVIV / 019

A youth center. Can for the youth also become with the youth? Of course one conceives a buildable project. But maybe also one refrains to build a complete project. And one dares to redefine the definition of the word ‘project is about a building’ into a ‘project is about building’ and rescales ‘DIY / do-it-yourself’ into ‘do-it-together / DIT’. The word ‘project’ becomes the word ‘process’: the way together with young people a given built environment can become inspirational to continue to build further on towards there real needs or dreams. On top to have enable a convincing background – the built part, good like 2/3 of the demands and budget – ready for change – the youth part, good for 1/3 by their dreams and possible by 1/3 of the budget. The NEW becomes yet available for the NOW but also will be available for the NEXT: by that the NEW project is yet P-RE-PARED for the NEXT project, name it (P)RE-USE today!

Yes. Drawing by hand since a project that is about HANDS-ON!

BABYN YAR

A JDVIV

Being invited by the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center (BYHMC) into the competition for the first modern Holocaust museum in Eastern Europe on search for a new approach to reviving the memory and share the knowledge about the site and events that took place in Babyn Yar, Kyiv.

Focussed on one given existing building itself yet a history of many buildings the proposal to the competition did not only twist the brief on that building – a non-conditioned to the park open building – but also added two more other perspectives. One on the park and how to collect debris of memories. And more importantly a proposal regarding another complex on the other side of the park. It was at first not in the interest of the foundation, but by our proposal it opened minds. A proposal for an ongoing summer school taking care of the never finished hospital for mental disease of children as also becoming a place of connection amongst you people from all over the world.

Once again. Drawing. And collecting drawings. Not less modelling. We presented the project online. A was a complete stage. The museum was not appointed to us but the orther building they would come back to us.
It was February 2020, exactly the week one year before the war started. People were yet speculating on the eventually, at the same time still suffering the outcome of the pandemic before. The war however halted all.

It is so far one of the most touching invitations we have received, like also Caritas was. This time history was however the unique perspective.

KATTEN

A JDVIV / A DVVT / EVR / DOORZON INTERIEURARCHITECTEN

Headquarters for the Province of East-Flanders at the former Military Kazerne in Ghent. A winning competition proposal in the frame of the Open Call of the VLAAMS BOUWMEESTER. Turned down by a change in political background. The institute of the provinces came at question. Turned the open call of the VLAAMS BOUWMEESTER over in an ordinary market call. With the outcome as it came: public private partnership generations later will pay for.

The proposal for the new headquarter for the Province of East-Flanders reading only the given as the given and no more no less. The only addition, a diamond bridge shift makes that possible and shifts the idea of the main floor being the ground floor into the first floor becoming the ground floor. Any other floor becomes at the distance of one floor lower or one floor higher.

Nearly all could stay as it was and the stoned central space of the former military headquarters was turned over into green garden one could walk through on its way from the above city towards the Citadel park on the other side. On the outskirts single family houses connected to area to the streets around.

Drawing by hand. Writing with love.

Always. All these stories become part: from the economy and politics not without the architecture and the drawing.
