"The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time."

~ Jack London

My journey starts today and will end in a year's time. Right now, I only 'exist' in @eugeneoregon_. Soon, I'll 'live' back in my home state where I belong.

I shall 'use my time' to complete all of my goals and come back home.

What's your journey?

Rhae of Light. I met Rhae at @bwp_eug a few weeks back and loved their vibrant personality, tattoos, hair and style. I didn’t have my camera with me, but they agreed to let me come back the next day to take some shots. What a fun experience taking their photo and hearing some of their story. Go see Rhae at Books With Pictures in Eugene, Oregon. #comicbookstore #comicbooks #comics #tattoos #portraiture

The Wizard. July 2026. Strolling through the Saturday market my daughter pointed this vendor out to me. He was gracious in giving me a couple of minutes to snap photos. #wizard #wizardry #shaman #oregonians #portraiture

Hendricks Park is Eugene’s oldest park, opened in 1906, sitting just above the city like it’s been quietly minding its business for over a century

And inside it… the rhododendron garden
planted in the 1950s with plants brought in from all over the world

But none of that is why it stayed with me

It’s the way the paths curve like you’re not supposed to rush
the way the blooms come in waves so nothing feels forced
the way you keep walking and somehow get quieter

I went thinking I’d take a few photos and leave
and ended up just… staying

Spring here doesn’t show off
it unfolds slowly, like it knows you’ll notice if you’re paying attention

And for a minute I was

My college coach, Bill Dellinger, would have turned 92 this week. He was the best coach I ever had—and one of the most influential people in my life.

He passed last year, right as track season was in full swing.

I spent countless hours with Coach Bill…
On the track, we talked training and strategy.
Inside his home, we talked about life.

I had the chance to walk through his house one last time after everything had been cleared out—no photos, no trophies, no medals… even his 1964 Olympic bronze was gone.

But what struck me most was this; standing in that empty space, I could still hear him.
His voice. His lessons. His presence. His friends. He had a lot of them.

Bill Dellinger literally wrote history, and I had a front-row seat as he and his friends - legends in my eyes - would tell stories from their glory days—Bill Bowerman, Phil Knight, Alberto Salazar, Mary Slaney, Billy Mills, Bill Rodgers, Matt Centrowitz, Pat Tyson.

During track season, his house felt like a living museum—a Who’s Who of the sport.

It made me think about the homes we help people leave…
Even when everything is gone, what mattered most is still there.
The memories. The life that was lived inside those walls.

Good coaches create winners.
Great coaches change lives.

Happy birthday, Coach.
You’re still living on through every athlete you made better than you found them.

By the time you are watching this video, I am probably sitting on a plane on my way to the United States.

Many thanks to Aer Lingus and Culture Ireland for supporting this tour.

The first stop will be The Ugly Mug Café, and after that I will be joining Don Penzien for a series of gigs. One of the shows will be at The Plough and Stars, 116 Clement Street in San Francisco.

From there we will travel north with performances in Oregon and then Washington.

I hope to see many of you along the way. You can visit my website to see the full schedule. It is already there.

It will be great to meet friends, listen to some lovely Irish music, and enjoy the time together. This only happens once a year, so let’s make the most of it.

Many thanks as well to my production team at Astory Media for helping me share the music and push the content out. It is very much appreciated.

And a hello back home to Dundalk in Ireland.
