Eulogy Recordings/Hand of Hope Records Sampler - (2006)

A nice little slice of 2006, Eulogy and Hand of Hope Records. This sampler brings together The Warriors, Casey Jones, Set Your Goals, Society’s Finest, and more, with bonus tracks from bands like Stand Before the Firing Squad, Every New Day, and On a Warpath.

The tracklist alone takes you straight back to that era. Hardcore, punk, breakdowns, and the kind of underground label roster that made you want to check out every band on the disc.

On this weeks episode I am paying tribute to Florida musician Chad Gilbert who was the guitarist in New Found Glory, and the vocalist on Shai Hulud's first album 'Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion'. Chad sadly lost his battle to cancer.

When I was a teenager, one of my best friends, and also a member of the punk/hardcore community, Seb, sadly lost his battle to cancer. A group of us went to see his favourite band New Found Glory play at the Civic Centre at Lansdowne Park (now known as TD Place). I remember that same night Gwar was playing at Capital Music Hall, and there was a local hardcore show at Club Saw, but we made the trek to the Civic Centre. At the show, one of us managed to track down Chad, and asked if he would do a shoutout to our friend Seb. He happily did so during their set, and it meant the world to us. Something I will never forget.

In tribute to Chad, I kick the show off with a song from the first SHAI HULUD album that he did vocals on, as well as some MORNING AGAIN which he played in very briefly. I continue with some more 90s hardcore from OUTSPOKEN, TRIAL, and BATTERY. I follow that with some 90s punk and pop-punk from Chad's home state Florida including FAY WRAY, VACANT ANDYS, LESS THAN JAKE, and DISCOUNT. I end with 'It Never Snows In Florida' by NEW FOUND GLORY. Rest in power Chad

Blaster Caps is on the air Tuesday's at 2:30pm on 93.1FM in Ottawa. You can also listen live or on demand via the website (ckcufm dot com).

Evergreen Terrace, GODS, Every New Day, The Burning Season - (Eulogy Recordings / Hand of Hope Promo)

This promo from Eulogy/Hand of Hope centers around GODS and Evergreen Terrace capturing that moment when melodic hardcore and metalcore were becoming impossible to ignore. Fast, emotional, heavy and ridiculously catchy.

The promo also features tracks from Every New Day, and The Burning Season, making it a killer little snapshot of the Hand of Hope/Eulogy family at the time.

Promotional CDs like this were never produced or circulated like standard album releases, which makes them especially fun for collectors digging into the deeper cuts of the era.

If we’re discussing the important labels that made Florida emo stand out, we cannot exclude Eulogy Recordings.

Their presence in the late 90s with bands like Keepsake, Red Letter Day and New Found Glory, gave them a potent roster of post hardcore and pop punk.

In that roster we also had Forever And A Day. This band had offered a cutting edge blend of post hardcore, reminiscent of Jawbox. There isn’t too much about this band out there unfortunately, they released an EP in 1999 and this sole full length in 2000 and seemingly vanished off the map.

But what they did leave behind was a pretty abrasive sound that added more variety to an already pretty diverse Florida scene.

Do you know this band? If so share your stories down below:) @plethoraofpinatas

The Burning Season – Onward Anthem(Hand of Hope/Eulogy Recordings, 2007)

Released through Eulogy Recordings during that golden era where melodic metalcore, Christian hardcore crossover scenes, and MySpace discovery culture were colliding all at once.

Onward Anthem moves between aggressive metallic hardcore and more melodic, atmospheric moments, with tracks like “The Broadcast,” “Something More,” “Bite the Bullet,” “Dear Seductress,” “The Onward Anthem,” and “Wearing Thin” showing off the band’s mix of heaviness and melody.

Still factory sealed after all these years. That’s the fun part! You’re not just looking at the album. You’re looking at a little piece of 2007 that somehow never got opened.

Red Roses For a Blue Lady - The Return to Melancholy (2000) Original CD.

I love this album so fucking much I ended up scoring it for 12 bucks a couple months ago on EBay. One of my favorite metalcore records of all time.
