The last 1.5 years has been a human changing time for all of us. Absolutely normal things became a dream, an impossible task- work, friends, travel, healthcare, food and it’s availability, shopping- and it led us all to adapt and adopt; find new things as well as discover new beginnings. For me learning about indian food became an obsession and gave me solace. Through @historywali & her History on a Plate, through @thirdculturecooks and her sessions on food and partition, and through the master ‘guruji’ @kurushdalal @euphorhea with their Studying Food Workshop . But it just wasn’t the knowledge, it was the community and the friendship, support on the darkest day, advice on the toughest moments that this extended gang of food lovers gave me- and all virtually. People I had not met for more than a year but who became a part of my daily conversation, my healthline! I finally met a bunch of these amazing virtual friends in flesh. And thanked every minute of tte evening. So much love and happiness ❤️ gratitude for this universe we created for each other. @thatpunnyboy @just.a.pinchofsalt @delectable_reveries @khaobowmeow @shibaniek @riotofflavours @ajeetkalbag @sorab.jassawalla @menaceinthekitchen_ and all those who weren’t here but were constantly missed To better times 🥂

Back to the kitchen after a loong long time. These fresh prawns were the inspiration really and yes what a meal. @euphorhea had sent me this beautiful, farn fresh raw papaya which went into a salad with nashpati, wasabi arugula and walnuts in a dressing made out of leftover pickle brine, aioli and fragrant chilly oil from @ajeetkalbag

2013 to 2021.
Our (definitely mine) defining work in three notebooks. While Chakh Le India changed my life, Lost Recipes has shaped it, and defined it.

The second clip is 💯 nostalgia, if you follow the series you’ll see recipes from our Udvada (Tagging @kurushdalal & @euphorhea who I met thanks to this episode! And @urvakshhoyvoy of @parsidadhaba too!), Mumbai, and Pondicherry Episodes, scribbled notes from Lucknow and other such. So special. Just like the many friendships that have been forged over this show.

Tomorrow on, notebook 3 will begin to be filled. I had other plans for Season 3 but each show, each season, each episode crafts its own path, you only follow.
For example, I had grand plans of shooting outdoors tomorrow - with a carpet of fields in the b/g, but the relentless rain has shushed me into obeying its ‘you better be shooting in an indoor kitchen tomorrow’ warning. I have no choice. But I do love the western ghats when they’re soaking in the rains, my favourite time of the year here - perhaps it’s time to put this love on screen with a rain-soaked episode, mellow, romantic, mystical, magical.
I’m all goose-bumpy. 🥰

And as always, the night before I shoot the first episode of a new show / season, sleep will be hard to come by, cos omg so excited.

A hattrick of perfect fried eggs for the girls and me this morning.
Practised while making my breakfast with Baby Loaf and Nimki supervising. Nimki was multitasking as he was supervising the building repair work which will hopefully address our leaking kitchen ceiling issue. Baby Loaf suggested my putting the Parsi prawn pickle Rhea Mitra Dalal had made and given us. It was neither too sharp, nor too sweep, and was perfect. She learnt how to make it from her mom in law and Kurush Dalal’s mum, the late Katy Dalal.
I made a fried egg with salt and pepper for K when she woke up to have her meds with. And then with chaat masala and chilli flakes for Gia to have as a sandwich with the lovely cheddar and jalapeño sourdough from MagStreet Bakery Gauri Devidayal had sent us and which we all had. I toasted the bread in the oven and in Gia’s one added butter, as Gauri said I must.
