@decoded_roots and @ourturn.brum bring you DIVERTED CULTURES ⚠️⭐️ an event exploring subcultures as an essential form of resistance against the status-quo. Subcultures force us to question harmful power structures 🚫, develop autonomous thought 💭, and expand our collective identities 🌱. Without such cultural outliers, society would continue without change and reach a point of stagnation. Diverted Culture will showcase the importance of subcultures through music 🎵, art 🎨, open decks 💿 and creative workshops ✨. Creating space for experimentation and connection. Free entry all day! 🗓️ 12th September 🕘 12pm - 9pm 📍 @beneculture UG13, Gibb Street, Birmingham B9 4AT

Breaking In With @adobe 🔨 Knowing people had traveled hours just to be in that room was incredibly humbling. I wanted to make sure my talk was actually worth their time, so I shared my non-linear creative pathway since uni to remind everyone that there’s more than one way in, and the process behind my commissioned project. Just honest, unfiltered conversations on what it actually looks like to work on a high-profile project, because sometimes that’s really all we want to hear!! It’s one thing to share opportunities on a screen, but seeing everyone connect and learn new skills in person was so special :) If you came along, asked questions, or got stuck into the workshops - thank you. You made the day what it was ❤️‍🔥 The Team: @graphicsbyshahzaib — promo graphics & word search @elisham.creative — custom letterpress bookmark workshop @studio.zine — zine workshop (and that incredible custom stand!) @jessicadorman.creative — headshots @p19n.mu — event photography & filming @beforewintergoes — attendee interviews So proud of us for pulling this off!!! 🥳 —— Image Credits: @p19n.mu

It was so cool being in a room full of creatives with such passion and everyone was so kind, sharing their experiences, advice and creative hacks! Spaces like these where people can learn and have the opportunity to collaborate are so important, I really hope to see more events like this😌 Shout to everyone who ran the Adobe event, you all smashed it🌞especially @sahaanashankar.work for hosting🧿

CREATIVE SPOTLIGHT✨ Meet Kaysja! (@euphoric.statee) - a graphic designer and mixed-media artist specializing in branding and editorial, who loves mixing different styles together to introduce something new to the design world. “My work is often inspired by black culture whether it is through colors, patterns or the language used.” Here are two projects completed by Kaysja👇 Punk Riddim “Music has always been a driving force for my designs, so I wanted to create a festival that celebrated black artists that are challenging the punk scene. This lead me to ‘Punk Riddim’ where Black IS punk. Throughout this project I mixed many techniques such as collage, painting and other adobe software.” B.A.D “This project was a self initiated brief to create an editorial for my design report. The editorial discusses how black culture is portrayed in art and design. The magazine ‘B.A.D’ stands for black and design. The magazine was my own take on the black movement ‘afro-futurism. The colourways were inspired by the various flags across the Caribbean.” Each month, we’ll spotlight a project from one of our event attendees, if you would like to be featured reach out to us through our DM’s!❤️‍🔥
