Look at this. Just look.

When we are told that Russia does not occupy, that Ukrainians should simply give up their territories in the name of “peace” — look at what is happening there.

This is occupied Ukrainian territory in the Donetsk region, September 2026.

Election officials are going from home to home with ballot boxes, accompanied by Russian servicemen and police officers. People are casting ballots outside their own homes while armed personnel stand nearby.

Russia is holding its State Duma election in Ukrainian territory that it controls militarily.

Ask yourself a very simple question: is this how you vote?

Do armed soldiers come to your home with an election commission and a ballot box?

Would you call that a normal environment in which a citizen can freely express a political choice?

This is why critical thinking matters.

Too often we stop asking basic questions. We accept familiar narratives because they are easier than opening the sources, comparing evidence, reading history and examining what is actually happening.

Russia has spent years presenting Ukraine as the aggressor while simultaneously exercising military control over Ukrainian territory and now conducting its parliamentary elections there.

Please read. Follow the news. Check primary sources. Read books. Question what you are told — including what people you already agree with tell you.

Democracy does not sustain itself.

Help democratic institutions remain strong. Help Ukraine defend itself. And help people regain the possibility of simply returning to their own homes.

This should not be normal in 2026

For the second day in a row, Kyiv is living under the constant threat of Russian attacks. The railway station is packed with people. Trains are delayed for hours. People are simply trying to get home.

Day two. Drones. Air-raid alerts. Strikes on civilian infrastructure.

Shopping centres, food warehouses, bookstores, businesses — everything that sustains ordinary everyday life — are being destroyed.

And all of this is happening in the capital of a European country in 2026.

Russia is an aggressor state that systematically terrorizes Ukrainian cities.

The purpose of this terror is not only physical destruction. It is an attempt to exhaust society, frighten people, make Ukrainians lose faith in their future, drive them from their cities and their country, and pressure them into accepting capitulation simply to make the attacks stop.

This is terror against civilians. It has no place in the modern world — especially not in Europe.

Europe cannot keep watching indefinitely and hoping that Russian aggression will somehow stop on its own. Impunity does not deter Russia — it creates the conditions for further aggression.

If Ukraine falls, Europe’s security problem will not disappear with Ukraine. On the contrary, the risks to Warsaw, Berlin, Paris, and the rest of Europe will become far greater.

Please, wake up.

Ukraine needs more than words of solidarity. It needs decisions. It needs air defence systems, military support, sanctions pressure, and the political will to make the aggressor understand that continuing this war will carry a real cost.

Ukrainians should not be forced to choose between death and capitulation.

Act. While there is still time.

“RUSSIA! RUSSIA! RUSSIA!”

This is what crowds are chanting in Russia.

Meanwhile, this is Ukraine today.

All night, Russia attacked Ukrainian cities with missiles and drones.

Kryvyi Rih. Odesa. Kyiv. Kharkiv. Lozova. Boryspil. Zaporizhzhia. Kremenchuk. Kherson.

Homes and civilian infrastructure damaged. People injured. People killed. Ukrainian cities burning.

And while this is happening, Russia continues to glorify its power, its war and its imperial ambitions.

The images are disturbingly reminiscent of some of the darkest chapters of 20th-century Europe: mass nationalism and militarism unfolding while another nation is being attacked.

And then Ukraine is asked:

When will you negotiate?
When will you sit down with Putin?
When will you compromise?

My question is different:

Negotiate what?

Ukraine did not invade Russia.
Ukraine did not start this war.
Ukraine is defending its people, its homes and its right to exist.

Ukrainians want peace more desperately than anyone watching this war from a safe distance.

But peace cannot mean silence between two Russian attacks.

Peace cannot mean rewarding aggression.

And negotiations cannot become a substitute for stopping the aggressor.

So perhaps the question should no longer be:

“When will Ukraine negotiate?”

But:

What will the democratic world do to make Russia stop?

Ukraine does not need a pause between two wars.

Ukraine needs security.
Ukraine needs justice.
Ukraine needs a peace that lasts.

Russia is the aggressor.
Ukraine is defending its right to live.

Do not confuse the two.

Russia’s New Strategy: Making Ukrainian Cities Uninhabitable

Modern warfare is no longer fought only on the battlefield.

Today, it increasingly targets the systems that allow ordinary people to live normal lives.

On August 5, Russia launched another massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv. The targets were not military bases or frontline positions. They were logistics hubs, warehouses, shopping infrastructure, and businesses that millions of civilians depend on every day.

This is not random destruction.

It is a systematic strategy.

By destroying logistics centers, postal terminals, warehouses, and retail infrastructure, Russia is trying to make daily life increasingly difficult—to interrupt supply chains, eliminate jobs, create shortages, and undermine the resilience of Ukrainian cities.

The consequences go far beyond the explosions themselves.

Industrial fires released toxic smoke across Kyiv. An ammonia leak created an additional environmental hazard. Emergency responders worked through the night under the constant risk of further attacks.

Meanwhile, ballistic and hypersonic missiles leave civilians with only minutes to seek shelter.

The objective extends beyond destroying buildings.

It is to make cities progressively harder to live in.

Understanding this strategy is essential to understanding today’s war.

Ukraine does not need sympathy alone.

It needs stronger air defense, tighter sanctions on missile components, and sustained international support to protect civilians.

Because modern wars are no longer fought only against armies.

They are increasingly fought against everyday life itself.

45°C of Scorching Concrete: Why Ukrainian Rescuers Are Redefining Emergency Response
In the Bucha district, Ukrainian rescuers have spent days dealing with the aftermath of the Russian missile and drone attack on August 1. They have been clearing rubble, extinguishing fires, and searching through destroyed industrial and warehouse sites in extreme heat.

The environment is brutal. Concrete, metal, and asphalt absorb the sun and turn the area into an open-air oven, with ground temperatures in some places rising above 45°C.
Firefighters and search-and-rescue teams work in heavy protective gear while facing dust, smoke, toxic fumes, and debris hot enough to burn on contact.

There is also the constant danger of a second strike, as Russian forces have repeatedly used so-called double-tap attacks on emergency crews. That means every minute on site carries real risk, and every operation must be done with extreme caution.

Still, Ukrainian rescuers keep working. They are using robotics and other tools to adapt to wartime conditions most countries never face. Over time, that has made them some of the most experienced emergency responders in the world.

What they are doing in Bucha is more than cleanup. It shows how war has transformed emergency response in Ukraine into something far more dangerous, demanding, and resilient than the world is used to seeing.

Es war mir ein besonderes Anliegen, in Peking ausführlich mit dem ukrainischen Botschafter Oleksandr Nechytailo zu sprechen.

Unser Austausch war geprägt von Offenheit, gegenseitigem Respekt und dem gemeinsamen Bewusstsein für die dramatische Lage in der Ukraine. Im Mittelpunkt stand der völkerrechtswidrige Angriffskrieg Russlands gegen die Ukraine sowie das unermessliche Leid der Zivilbevölkerung.

Gerade in Zeiten globaler Spannungen braucht es internationale Dialoge, strategischen Informationsaustausch und die enge Zusammenarbeit von Diplomatie, Politik und Denkfabriken, um Wege zu Frieden, Stabilität und Sicherheit zu finden.

Mein besonderer Dank gilt dem estnischen Botschafter Hannes Hanso, der dieses wichtige Treffen ermöglicht und zugleich einen hochkarätigen Empfang für meine Delegation ausgerichtet hat.
Solche diplomatischen Begegnungen schaffen Vertrauen, stärken den internationalen Dialog und fördern gemeinsame Lösungen in herausfordernden Zeiten.

Today, around a thousand attacks are being recorded every single day in the Kherson region. This is not an escalation — it is the daily reality in which civilians live under constant fire.

During the International Summit of Cities and Regions, Head of the Kherson Regional Administration Oleksandr Prokudin stated that among all regional centers, Kherson is facing the worst situation. According to him, the region suffers approximately one thousand attacks per day.

In just one week alone, around 5,500 drone strikes were recorded.

Behind these numbers are human lives.

Every day, civilians are wounded and killed. In a single day alone, 10 people were injured, including a child. The day before — two killed and 22 wounded. And this continues every day.

These are not isolated incidents. This is systematic terror against civilians.

Despite the scale of the violence, the international response remains insufficient. Public statements often fail to match the scale of the tragedy unfolding on the ground.

Kherson today is one of the clearest examples of what a prolonged war against civilians looks like.

And the question remains open: when will the systematic nature of these attacks receive an equally systematic international response?

Wenn man wenig Möglichkeiten hat, muss man aus dem Wenigen das Beste herausholen. Da fängt Kreativität an, in diesem Fall durch Rückbesinnung auf erlernte Physik und siehe da, es funktioniert!

Ich bin sicher, das Funkproblem bekommt die Ukraine auch gelöst und dann könnte der ruzzische Nachschub ein Problem bekommen.

Die Ukraine hat gerade einen Weg gefunden, die Reichweite ihrer Al-Drohnen zu verdoppeln.

Der Trick: ein Ballon.

Ein Heliumballon hebt eine 2 Meter lange Hornet auf 8.000 Meter Höhe und lässt sie dann fallen, damit sie auf russische Versorgungslastwagen zuschwebt.

Die Reichweite könnte von 200 km auf potenziell 400 km steigen – wodurch Drohnen für Mittelstreckenangriffe zu Drohnen für Tiefenangriffe werden.

Der Haken: Ballons fliegen dahin, wohin der Wind sie treibt. Und eine Drohne ist nur so weit nützlich, wie ihre Funkverbindung reicht.

Die einfachste Lösung ist vielleicht die naheliegendste: Man bringt das Funkrelais ebenfalls am Ballon an.

Сьогодні ефективність відбиття російських дронових атак в Україні становить близько 90%. Проте для досягнення мети у 95% перехоплень українська ППО стикається з критичною перешкодою — гострим дефіцитом радіолокаційних систем. Радари є “очима” для мобільних вогневих груп та дронів-перехоплювачів, без яких навіть найсучасніші екіпажі втрачають свою ефективність.

Аналітик Українського центру безпеки та співпраці Назарія Барчука @barchukkn в коментарі англомовному виданню Euromaidan Press @euromaidanpress зазначає, що масове використання систем виявлення для боротьби з ворожими FPV-дронами як на передовій, так і в тилу, лише загострює цю проблему. Наразі потужностей вітчизняного виробництва недостатньо, про що свідчить повна законтрактованість українських радарів аж до 2027 року.

“Українська мала (протидронова) ППО не є чимось окремим, а складається з ряду засобів виявлення та ураження цілей... Основним інструментами протидії є мобільні вогневі групи (МВГ) та дрони-перехоплювачі, для роботи обидвох необхідним є використання великої кількості радарів — що фактично створює повну картину повітряного простору. Їх масове використання і в тилових регіонах, і безпосередньо поблизу ЛБЗ для боротьби з FPV-дронами противника провокує дефіцит радарів, що “доповнює” й загальну нестачу систем та засобів протиповітряної оборони. Вирішення проблеми вочевидь полягає в збільшенні чисельності виготовлених одиниць, що може бути реалізовано приватними виробниками за умови сталого попиту на ринку”, — пояснює Назарій Барчук.

За його словами, позитивні зрушення вже є: у межах кластеру Brave1 профінансовано 12 компаній, що розробляють рішення для захисту неба. Крім того, німецька компанія HENSOLDT відкрила в Україні сервісно-інноваційний центр для ремонту та масштабування розробок.
Як наголошує аналітик, поєднання українського бойового досвіду з технологічністю західних союзників дозволяє створювати дійсно дієві рішення для нашої армії.
