I technically graduated 6 months ago, but now I have photos! Film school has been an incredible experience. I’m unbelievably grateful for all the amazing friends I’ve made along the way!!

Only 9 months late.

But like most things that take 9 months to come out, it’s because it’s special.

In May I graduated San Diego State Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Television Film and New Media Studies, with an emphasis in Film Production, and a minor in Marketing.

Now begins a lengthy letter.
TLDR: I had fun.

To San Diego State,

We didn’t always get along. I was steered in wrong directions by academic advisors more times than not, I was denied from the film program my first try, and I didn’t agree with many, if not most, of the administrative decisions I saw during my time here.

But, of course, you also exposed me (whether intentional or not) to so many of my best friends and interests that I know and love today. From the Newman Center and Latin Dance Classes, to Mission Bay Aquatic Center and my various water-sports classes (wakeboarding, windsurfing and most notably sailing), I learned of whole other worlds than the ones I knew before and I thank you for that.

My academic career, though I started in engineering for a year, was also meaningful. In my time studying film production, I met many talented and passionate people. People who I believe will do great big things in their futures, in the same ways that I hope to. The greatest honor for me was directing my film Chord of David with many of my good friends, and furthermore going on to win 3 awards for it, including 2 best pictures and best sound. I still am in disbelief about those, and in eternal debt to the people who helped me.

My rock bands were by far the biggest part of my time at SDSU though, even more so than my academics at times. Kocean and NICKUSIOR dominated most of my college weekends in various capacities, but usually playing shows in unique environments and to unique people. To Kocean and the Disciples, I will never forget the long practices, or the moments of perfect band connection. I’ll cherish those forever.

I wish I could tag everyone who made college special, but I would never stop. Love yall.

And to my Grandmother Bridget, I’m eternally grateful you got to see me graduate. I know you’re still watching over us. I love you.
