On this episode of Skills & Drills, moving and shooting was today’s focus.

Here’s the deal: it’s not as hard as some people would have you think.

Shhhhh. 🤫 Don’t tell the other instructors.

Moving and shooting is simply another dimension of skill layered on top of the fundamentals you already have. And in my opinion, the majority of shooting comes back to two principal foundations: Grip and sight alignment.

Yup. That’s it.

A lot of the other stuff comes down to personal preference, body mechanics, context, and what works for you. But if you can’t consistently grip the gun and align your sights, or put that dot where you need it, you’re eventually going back to the drawing board. You might get away with a few things. You won’t progress very far.

Once those foundations are solid, we add something you’ve been doing your entire life: Moving.

Walking. Running. Forward. Backward. Laterally.

Don’t make it complicated.

Now account for target size, distance, movement, difficulty, and consequence. Take in the information, understand your current level of skill, and solve the problem in front of you.

That’s shooting.

What some people would have you believe takes years to understand, we worked through in two and a half hours.

No secret techniques.
No magic sauce.
No gatekeeping.

Just Skills & Drills.

See you on the range.

Great day yesterday! Jerry “JP” Privitt was awarded a Lifetime Membership Award at the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads Annual Convention. We pulled off a good one and surprised him with Allie coming in from Texas to get to pin him! 5 years ago to the day Earl “Paw” Privitt received the same award. They are amongst some of the greatest rescue people that have the biggest servants’ hearts! Thank you to everyone that helped me pull off this surprise!!!! @jp_privitt @allie.privitt @evan_bribiesca @tnassocrescuesquads

PSA to all parents…
Don’t close your eyes because they grow up in an instant!
Happy Birthday Allie Cat!
6 things that make it ok that you are so far away:
1. You are doing what you love and pursuing your dreams.
2. Our daily phone calls - short ones or long ones - remind us that you are ok and we don’t have to be total helicopter parents!
3. Planes fly in and out everyday connecting Dallas to TN!
4. You are wearing that smile so well and have found some pretty great people to surround yourself with, and you haven’t forgotten those great TN besties that are tried and true. I am thankful for them all.
5. Our love has no boundaries and I hope you feel it all the way in Texas.
6. And lastly, I see your Faith growing in a way that it spills out to all those around you.
