🎷 Meet the band: Queer Jazz Collective 🎃 Live music at Spooky Swing comes from @queerjazzcollective, and they're the perfect fit for this floor. This collective of queer musicians runs a monthly jam session at Henrietta Hudson and are built around the same thing we are: a space for queer joy, expression, and community. Their sets weave in the rarely-told stories of LGBTQ+ jazz artists like Ma Rainey and Billy Strayhorn, shining a light on the queer musicians written out of jazz history. Come dance to it live, two sets, Sunday, October 25, 3-6pm at Ripley-Grier Studios (520 8th Ave, Studio 17S, between 36th & 37th). Go to our profile for more information! Costumes encouraged! Masked event, beginners + allies welcome 🖤 $25 suggested donation. Pay what you can, no one turned away for lack of funds. This event is supported by @swingout.show. We are a proud #SWINGOUTCommunityFund grantee. #queerswingdance #nycswingdance #queernyc #queerlindy

The house band will be back in session for a SPOOKY session of music tomorrow, October 14 from 6-9pm. Come join us! Our performances feature current queer artists’ musical projects and showcase queer music history, weaving in inspiring and rarely told stories of LGBTQ+ jazz musicians like Ma Rainey and Billy Strayhorn. We highlight lesser-known artists and compositions in order to shed light on the often erased contributions of queer musicians to jazz history. As always, queer folks and women jazz musicians are welcome to sit in on the second set. Dancers are also welcome! @storycm.music - drums @lianachinbass - bass @evanhamaguchi - vox & sax @saturnina.wav - guitar Organized by @calvinkaleelmusic @edith_hazel_music @norahdechant and @storycm.music Thanks as always to @keyed__up for additional funding and for @henriettahudson for hosting!

It feels so odd to be on the other side of this performance. It’s impossible to relive the anticipation of first notes sung on the Birdland stage. But lucky for us (and you) we will have pro video of the whole show coming very soon. Thank you so much to Gianni, all the staff at Birdland, and our friends and families for making our dream come true last Sunday.
