Back in Melbourne after a month living in the hot, humid summer of Zhujiajiao, working on my first book, writing new poems, making new friends, meeting two cheeky & chatty kittens, living through a typhoon which flooded the studio, pouring buckets of water down the drain from the flooded studio, walking through the canals of the old city so often the chang fen stall owner began to recognise me, visiting Eileen Chang’s first flat in Shanghai, incidentally attending the Shanghai Book Fair while being unable to read any of the books, drinking coffee and thinking of Melbourne, drinking lots of old duck soup with the blood pudding cubes and intestines (fighting my iron deficiency one old duck soup at a time), exhibiting my poems in a gallery space for the first time and reading my poem with @0linruitian on guqin! Until next time Zhujiajiao 🌱

Upcoming exhibition, Seagaia Ocean Dome, with @heshngg @uilnafiy @evchannskiy @jiaj.i.a @xiaole.zhan

The Seagaia Ocean Dome was an indoor artificial beach in Miyazaki that has since been demolished. In its time, the Seagaia Ocean Dome featured the world’s biggest retractable roof, which opened and closed according to weather conditions. Simulated waves of chlorinated, unsalted water swept upon 12,000 square metres of artificial sandy beach.

Artists Yifan Liu, Jia Jia, Eva Kuznietsova, Lián and Xiaole Zhan draw upon ideas of simulation and representation embodied in the defunct Seagaia Ocean Dome as well as the surroundings of Zhujiajiao – both an ancient water town as well as a commodified tourist zone.

Each artist responds to the worlds within worlds where the lines between genuine and artificial are constantly unsettled. There are imagined lives within hollow books; fleeting moments captured within permanent metal; livelihoods within tourist towns; seeds sealed within bubblewrap; and fictional nomads within the reality of displaced peoples in rural Peru.

We welcome you to step into our reimagined Seagaia Ocean Dome – a site of assembled ruins – and to consider the worlds within worlds within each of our lives.— Xiaole Zhan

Eva Kuznietsova's artistic practice moves between painting and handcrafted jewelry, exploring the emotional and tactile relationship between the body, objects, and space.

Eva is interested in how form and texture can carry emotional resonance. Through intuitive processes, she experiments with materials, surfaces, and organic shapes to create works that evoke personal narratives and sensory experiences.In her practice, jewelry becomes more than an accessory; it functions as a small sculpture that interacts with the body and reflects individuality. Painting allows her to explore similar ideas on a larger scale, translating intimate gestures and textures into visual landscapes.

Her work often reflects themes of movement, transformation, and belonging, experiences shaped by living in different cities and cultural environments. Through material exploration and handcrafted processes, she aims to create objects and images that invite viewers to connect with their own emotional and physical relationship to form.
