In-between adventures abroad

And so the year of the Fire Horse begins with a snowy start.

Continuing what might be a burgeoning New Year's tradition for me by doing something slightly unhinged by my standards (2025: an hour walk home at midnight to do first footing with strangers; 2026: an hour walk into work because no buses) it was so lovely to say goodbye to 2025 with new friends by my side.

Now, more than a few people vehemently dislike January - gloomy days, no festivities and even darker nights - but I've found a sort of solace in the crisp blue skies and biting air; the way my cheeks and nose blush pink and how the year's potential spans out before me. I witnessed some incredible sights, from snow capped hills and frozen ponds to glorious rainbows without hardly having to venture out to find them and to have all that and more at my back door? Why wouldn't I love it?

This January marked a milestone for me - and though standing on a frozen pond for the first time was exhilarating and fulfilled a longstanding dream, this was not it - for at last I finished the first draft of a completed novel. It's one step up a winding staircase but it was a step I was never quite sure I'd get to, and to say that I've done it, I've finished it? I'm pleased to say that I'm proud of myself.

So here's to January and a 2026 full of potential x

September and a dash of October miscellaneous.

1: Revisiting the National Portrait Gallery 🥰✨
2: My first book club with Loch and Legends run by the brilliant @letters_from_neverland ! Our first read was The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
3 & 4: Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief: The Musical, because if there is anything Percy Jackson related of course I will see it. Huge shoutout to @evee.mitchell for coming with!
5: Canera Obscura shenanigans that I'm sure Mr Geddes would approve of.
6: Seeing @annelisejoyce for the first time in five years! We went to uni together and it was so wonderful to catch up again, in Edinburgh of all places.
7 - 9: Walks near home and down to Musselburgh.
10 & 11: So lucky to see @hesteraspland 's incredible exhibition at The Scottish Storytelling Centre. I love the Kelpie print I have from her that I bought last year at the Leith Witch Market.
12: The Harr coming in thick like a blanket.
13 & 14: My first Canadian Thanksgiving!
15: Ominous or cute...? But definitely feels like a Sign.
16 - 18: My first whirlwind gig night in Glasgow. Thank you once again to Eve for taking me to see The Happy Fits!
