This beach session was purely a creative outlet shoot for me to just do something a little different than couples or weddings and I loved it so much. I feel like when you’re so good at your niche, other specialties fall behind and I always want to get better in all realms of photography so I can therefore become better at my niche. Solo portraits at the beach help me to be better at solo portraits for my wedding clients. It all ties together. And this session was just fun, lighthearted and although it was super quick, it was a refreshing difference perspective 🤍 I’m also praying for more sea-side and coastal weddings this year and next year because I need to touch seawater at least 6 times a year! #sfphotographer #sanfrancisco #beachphotos #travel #photographerreels

No matter how long I’m a photographer for, I’ll always care about every single person I come across. Every path I’ve walked in, every wedding I’ve been a part of has always been such a blessing and I never take it for granted what the Lord has given me. As a person who struggled to make friends growing up and someone who is still anti-social to this day, I feel like my clients have become my friends and it’s healed a part of me while also allowing me to help others capture the photos of their dreams. This job is unbelievably beautiful and I could not imagine my life without being a photographer. To Kathy & Jessie, I’m so thankful for your love and the opportunity to serve you. It’s been such a journey showing everyone just a little bit of the beautiful day we had together and I’m so thankful for your willingness to trust me and allow me to be completely who I am. The biggest mistake that I made as a beginner was thinking I could tackle an entire wedding by myself without a second shooter. Let me hold your hand through this… you have to have a second shooter if you want more creative and Pinterest worthy photos for your wedding! The reason why is because weddings are extremely intense and require those traditional shots that every event needs. But if you are stuck taking all of the traditional shots that soak up so much time, no one is able to float around to capture more creative shots. The art of being two places at once. This is what you need for a wedding that is filled with detail and events. For smaller events, sure, you can probably get away with being a solo shooter but I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have my second. Having Melissa allows me to walk around, take Polaroids, look at the room creatively while knowing that my couple’s album isn’t going to be filled with super traditional photos but also those creative and magazine worthy ones that shock them. You guys loved seeing Melissa in the last one and we have one more episode of Katherine & Jessie’s wedding with Melissa in it so I’m so excited for you to see more of us together! It’s so crazy seeing how in sync we both are in these videos. When I first started photography, I shot every wedding by myself and learned the hard way that you cannot be in more places at once as one person. And when it comes to weddings you need to capture every angle because it’s not just about one person - it’s everyone - the bride, the groom, the parents, the planner and vendors that made this wedding… everything needs to be photographed. To do so in an integral way you have to be able to have a second and maybe sometimes even a third shooter. My second shooter @melschill.photo has been my rock at every wedding and I fly her out every single time lol because I trust her, i love her and we just connect so so well and she obviously takes AMAZING photos. As a bride you should be excited to take your photos, not steadily anticipating that you have to look perfect, pose for long periods of time and be extremely serious and in turn that is how you get those magazine worthy photos. In fact it’s quite the opposite - the inbetween moments that I create for my brides to showcase their genuine selves is where I capture the best photos. I always try to keep your preferences in mind before I start prompting you to do things like making sure your arms look good, you’re walking the correct way, that your posture is correct, but everything between is pure and genuine joy and confidence. We all need that someone to tell us we’re doing a good job. But more than this, we need someone to hype us up and keep the energy flowing. To know exactly when to stop or when to push harder for a better pose. Being a comedian and a photographer frankly goes hand in hand and I want your day to reflect fun and joy, not stress and strain 🤍 The most gorgeous solos for my bride and groom before their reception began at the pool of gods restroom area of Caesar’s palace and I am still drooling over these photos. The biggest concern with many of my brides is that their groom hates photos or hates the attention and they think that means the photos aren’t going to look good. That’s why I always try to give equal attention to both the groom and the bride but ultimately it’s the hype and energy that keeps them willing to keep going. Awkward silences, long poses, and lack of reassurance might cause grooms to become self conscious and close themselves off which is why I’m always moving, always shifting and changing, and most importantly ALWAYS hyping them up!
