Gabriele Evertz was born in Berlin, Germany in 1945, and lives and works in Brooklyn. She holds a BA in Art History and an MFA in Painting, both from Hunter College in New York. Evertz’s work is concerned with sensations and perceptions. Her vibrant juxtapositions of color are executed with meticulous precision in inch-wide vertical sequences, cut in places with achromatic diagonals. The uniformity of the painted surface allows the viewer to focus on the energy and relationships between the colors, effects which shift and change over the course of observation. Evertz taught painting at Hunter College from 1990-2018. She is a key member of the renowned Hunter Color School, alongside other color painters such as Vincent Longo, Doug Ohlson, Robert Swain, and Sanford Wurmfeld. Works by Gabriele Evertz are included in numerous public collections worldwide, including the Art in Embassies Program of the U.S. Department of State; British Museum; Brooklyn Museum; Columbus Museum of Art; Ewing Gallery, University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Hallmark Collection; Harvard University Art Museum; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Mississippi Museum of Art; Museo de Art Contemporáneo, Buenos Aires; Museum of Fine Arts Boston; and the Museum of Modern Art, New York, among others. Starting April 10, join us at Booth G3 at the @dallasartfair! Here's a sneak peek at our contemporary selection! @evertzgabriele @knoppferro @originalheatherhutchison @mokha_laget.studio @mwlpsca Gabriele Evertz's work is concerned with sensations and perceptions, executed with meticulous precision and organized around the history and theory of color. Knopp Ferro's foundational interest in movement, play, and the transformation of space and experience, together with his knowledge of metalworking, form the basis of his signature kinetic sculpture practice. Heather Hutchison's works capture the essence of the phenomena of light and how it shifts in natural environments. Mokha Laget is known for her geometric abstractions that utilize shaped canvas to take hard-edge color field imagery into another dimension. Mark Leonard become the first Chief Conservator at the Dallas Museum of Art before returning to working full-time as an independent artist in 2017. Cecilia Miguez’s sculptures are animated figures, dreamily gliding between the worlds of mythology and reality. Richard Wilson mingles elements of hard edge abstraction together with intuitive coloristic impulses for his abstract “landscapes,” distilled to the essentials of space and light.
