After five incredible years of co-founding and leading Queer Voices: NYC, my chapter in active leadership has come to a close.

Building this organization has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. What started as an idea for a space that centered and celebrated LGBTQIA+ filmmakers grew into an organization that has screened and supported the work of more than 150 LGBTQIA+ filmmakers, created community, and opened doors for transformative connection and creativity.

I’m immensely proud of everything I contributed as Co-Founder and Festival Director, and I’m eternally grateful to every filmmaker, artist, team member, partner, and audience member who believed in what we were building. While I won’t be in attendance at the 2026 festival, I’m rooting for and sending my love to all of the filmmakers whose work will be celebrated this year.

Thank you to everyone who trusted me with your stories, who supported this work, who collaborated with me, challenged me, and most importantly, believed in me. I will always be so proud of what we created together.

So what’s next? I’m excited to recenter my focus back on my artistry. I’m excited to choose me for a while. And while that feels foreign, and a little bit scary, I’m also full of excitement. I’m looking forward to keeping y’all in the loop on the stories I am creating and the voices I’ll be amplifying through them. I can’t wait to see what comes from it 💘🫶🏽

Meet the phenomenal @everythingiree, who completely embodied the character of Aruru in Dorion. 🎬

We sat down with Iree to talk about what drew her to this role, her approach toward acting, and what’s coming up for her next.

From mastering a totally invented language to choreographing her own movements, watching Iree become this otherworldly being was incredible to witness. ⚡️

Catch us at @comic_con on July 24th at 7pm!
