GROUNDING TECHNIQUES

Grounding is a practice that can help you pull away from flashbacks, unwanted memories, and negative or challenging emotions.

Grounding techniques are exercises that may help you refocus on the present moment to distract yourself from anxious feelings.

You can use grounding techniques to help create space from distressing feelings in nearly any situation, but they’re especially helpful for improving:

•anxiety
•well-being
•stress
•depression
•mood
•post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
•dissociation

Get to know Acts 76 and 84!
These laws represent a significant step forward in ensuring the safety, well-being, and dignity of every student pursuing higher education on Hawai’i college campuses. By implementing comprehensive measures such as mandatory training on sexual violence prevention and providing confidential victim counselors, our lawmakers are sending a resounding message: we stand united against sexual violence and will not tolerate its presence on our campuses.💪🌺
The importance of these laws cannot be overstated. They establish clear guidelines for preventing and addressing incidents of sexual violence, fostering a culture of consent, respect, and accountability. They provide survivors with crucial support systems, resources, and avenues for reporting and seeking justice. Most importantly, they create an environment where every student can focus on their education without fear or trauma. 💙🙌

Today, on the 51st Anniversary of Title IX, HB 3456 PASSED Oregon's Senate in a vote of 19-5 (6 absent) and is now on its way to Governor Tina Kotek's desk. We are so grateful for the bipartisan support for our bill.

On behalf of Every Voice Oregon, thank you to our Chief Sponsors Rep. Annessa Hartman and Rep. Mark Gamba for all of their hard work and dedication to advocating for survivors of sexual and domestic violence. We would also like to thank Senator Dembrow for carrying the bill through the Senate, as well as our regular sponsors.

This would not have been possible without the hard work of organizations like the Oregon SATF, @oregonstudents, the Oregon Alliance to End Violence Against Women, and the HECC, as well as all of the other outstanding organizers, supporters, and volunteers that have shaped the bill into what it is today. 💙🤍

WE DID IT! ✨

Yesterday, @govjoshgreen signed eight gender justice bills into law, including HB 554, our bill to strengthen protections for survivors of sexual assault at UH!

He also signed several bills to uplift mental health and community wellness for Hawai’i!

Gender violence has no place on our shores. Mahalo to Gov. Josh Green for championing the voices of survivors and making community resilience a top priority for our state!

Yesterday, I was honored to attend the bill signing ceremony for HB 554, our bill to strengthen protections for survivors of sexual violence at the University of Hawai’i.

As a survivor myself, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for @govjoshgreen and the many people who supported this bill, especially my dear friends @repkapela, @repperruso, and @everyvoicehawaii.

I publicly disclosed my assault four years ago, shortly before beginning work on the first version of this measure.

With this bill now law, we are ensuring that future survivors will be treated with compassion and sending a strong message that gender violence has no place on Hawai’i’s college campuses.

After months of work, one of my priority bills passed off the House floor today with 42 ayes and 13 nays! 🧡 The Campus Survivors Bill which was brought to me by Oregon Student Survivors. Honored to have worked on this legislation and am grateful for the bipartisan support.

Today we sent the message that we are listening to survivor voices and that sexual violence has no place in Oregon.

**This bill will only be made possible if the Senate R’s return to work.
