In a Hollywood scene buzzing with rising stars, yesteryear heroes, and home-recorded visionaries, @alleygirl.biz stands out like a flickering candle in a backstreet full of sodium streetlights. The recording project is the brainchild of Doris Stanić, a Netherlands-born, Bosnian-rooted artist based in Los Angeles whose recordings play like a bedroom broadcast from some future-past radio tower with ‘60s fractured pop melodies and playful sound effects colliding in a haze reminiscent of Denny Ward, The Shivvers, On The Air, Game Theory, and The Shirts. Catch Alley Girl and her band (Gold Star Gold Star, Good Dog Nigel) October 26 @revolverrecordsinc (Elmwood) in Buffalo with locals @evilthangs and @thee_isolators. Concert poster by @sleepy_p_texas

We wrap up this week's Live Music offerings with @shilparayofficial & @evilthangs 🎶🪩🍻🛸🪲🎸 Shilpa Ray is a wailing, fire breathing Cyclops. She tornadoes everything in her path: small towns, big cities, and children’s dreams. One of her fans commented on a YouTube video, “If there’s a heaven, I want God to hire Shilpa Ray to sing the list of my sins.” Within a few hours, she had a day job working for Saint Peter. Ray has ripped off all the greats—The Gun Club, Tom Waits, The Doors— and recently pulled off a triple rip: ripping off Nina Simone ripping off Screamin’ Jay Hawkins ripping off the Devil. 7pm doors, 8pm tunes $18 at door, 21+ (18-20yr entry w/ adv ticket)

Brood X warps the conventions of psychedelia to create tranced out, groove-gazing tracks. Doom drenched call and response chants and enigmatic earworm riffs weave in and out of torrential rhythm, locked in beats and wall of sound exploration. The ever-changing lineup experiments with texture, dimension, and their own stamina resulting in delirious and engaging live performances. @brood_x_
