Brunch, matcha and pastries? We’re sold! 🍵🥐✨

We popped into La Vallée in Essendon to explore their creative matcha menu and tuck into some seriously delicious brunch dishes!

🍵 The matcha menu deserves its own moment! The Cloud Matcha was amazing – creamy, dreamy and such a treat! We also loved seeing the creative options on offer, from iced matcha with cold foam to flavours like pistachio, strawberry, mango and coconut. Their viral Banana Matcha is another one to look out for, and you can even grab your drink in a handy glass can for takeaway!

🍳 Porchetta Benedict – ridiculously delicious! Two thick slices of crispy-skinned porchetta with poached eggs and chipotle hollandaise, finished with fresh herbs. Rich, crisp and beautifully balanced – an absolute standout!

🥑 A Very Green Avocado – a gorgeous avocado flower with roasted broccolini, sorrel, carrot purée, shaved radish, herb foam and a perfectly poached egg on toasted sourdough. Fresh, vibrant and full of texture.

🇮🇹 Meatball Sub – house-made meatballs in rich Napoli sauce, tucked into a soft milk bun with melted mozzarella and shaved pecorino. Messy, comforting and packed with flavour!

🥐 And don’t skip the pastry cabinet! The pistachio and strawberry croissant was a winner. 😍

If you know a thing or two about a good slice, you won't be surprised to learn that Pascoe Vale's @shop_225, one of the state's most awarded pizzerias, has again been recognised as one of the best pizza restaurants in the world, and the top in Victoria. Because the @50toppizza awards are widely regarded as one of the most influential globally, placing 42nd in the worldwide rankings is a significant achievement.

"This is the third time SHOP 225 has placed in these prestigious awards since 2024, and honestly, it never gets old. It reaffirms our commitment to bringing the best quality pizza to our second home, Melbourne...This is a reflection of the work of everyone at SHOP 225, not just me. We'll keep pushing to represent Melbourne and Australia on the world stage," says Co-founder Lorenzo Tron. Send this to your pizza-loving mates now.

My top tips from Fine Food Australia: So-good Franui frozen chocolate berries - sold to me by a young and handsome Argentinian chap, not that had anything to do with my choice of course 😊 - and Odaya matcha - no, not eye-roll yawn matcha but the real thing, sourced direct from a sixth-generation tea farm in Kyoto )or it may have been fifth-generation - there were so many people @finefood.oz and everyone was talking at once … love their matcha cookies too, free of crap ingredients (unless you”re counting sugar as crap - but you know, it has its place) @eviltwinpr @melbourne @matcha #melbourne

🤩Jeeze Louise! 🙌🏼 HANDS DOWN one of the BEST #pizza 🍕 experiences to date at @maestrosourdoughpizza in North Beach 🌟 Born out of founder Andrea Brunelli’s decade-long passion in Italy and launched during the 2020 lockdowns, this local gem has grown from a home kitchen setup into a thriving, top-tier North Beach staple.

✨Specialising in long-rising, authentic #Neapolitan sourdough pizza topped to perfection, alongside a crowd-pleasing lineup of appetisers, pastas, and desserts, it’s now impossible for us not to start planning your next trip back!🤤

💫Here’s what we tucked into and thoroughly enjoyed:👇🏼

🥫🧆 Polpette al Sugo – Traditional Italian meatballs in napoletana sauce, served with house-made sourdough bread
🔥 Arancini – Bolognese sauce & mozzarella, with house-made aioli
🍕 Gladiator Pizza 😱 👍🏼 – Truffle cream base, fior di latte, artichokes, crispy guanciale, house-made carbonara cream, fresh pecorino, EVOO & basil (honestly one of the BEST pizzas I’ve had this year!)
🍕 Burrata Pizza – San Marzano DOP tomato sauce, parmesan, San Daniele prosciutto, fresh burrata, EVOO & basil
🍝 Ravioli Ricotta e Spinaci – House-made vodka tomato sauce, fresh stracciatella & fresh basil
🍫🌰Maestro Doughnuts – Deep-fried pizza dough dressed with Nutella or pistachio cream, with your choice of gelato

✨Every single dish held its own, but man oh man...that Gladiator pizza in particular is one we’re still thinking about!

💫Folks...if you’re after proper, authentic #woodfiredpizza 🔥🍕, this is genuinely one worth seeking out! We came from south of the river and honestly wouldn’t think twice about making that drive again!👏🏼

📍Find them at 111C Flora Terrace, North Beach and be sure to head to 👉🏼 maestropizza.com.au to learn more! || 💫 🙏🏼 A very warm thank you to Richard at @eviltwinpr for arranging the visit and to the awesome Maestro team (Emilia, Giulia, Helena, Giuseppe, Kai, Dejan, Francesco, Tenzi) for an exceptional evening!🥰✨

🔥 WHERE THE FOOD INDUSTRY COMES TO DISCOVER WHAT’S NEXT 🔥

@finefoodexpo is seriously one of the best foodie events on the calendar - and Day 1 delivered! 👨‍🍳🍽️

This isn’t just a food expo but a curated environment where chefs, restaurateurs, buyers, operators, suppliers and industry leaders come together to discover what’s new, what’s next and what could transform their business. 🚀

From incredible products and innovative technology to emerging brands and seriously impressive exhibitors, everyone had gone to great lengths to showcase what they do. 👏

And there is SO much to see… 😳
⏰ You need hours - realistically, a full day - to even scratch the surface.

What I loved most? The diversity. 🌏
Thousands of products. 900+ exhibitors. 10 product zones. Big launches. New ideas. Plenty of tastings. And a packed show floor buzzing with the people shaping Australia’s food and hospitality scene.

It’s where new ideas meet practical solutions - and where you can discover the next big thing before everyone else. 🔥

A huge thank you to Rich from @eviltwinpr for showing me around and giving me an insider’s look at the action! 🙌

📍 Fine Food Australia
🍴 Foodservice • Hospitality • Innovation • Suppliers
🔥 Discover what’s new. Meet the industry. Stay ahead.

🇮🇹 Pronto 478 is one Italian spot you NEED to know about!
We visited for lunch and I was seriously impressed. This Bentleigh gem by the legends behind @shop_225 and @ilcaminetto_mooneeponds is all about authentic Italian street food, with their famous sorrisi being the absolute star of the show! 😍
Think a delicious Roman-style folded pizza sandwich, made with a light, crispy base and filled with seriously good ingredients — the sorrisi alone is reason enough to visit! It’s something a little different from your usual Italian offering and I absolutely loved it.
We also tried their pastas and arancini, and everything was fresh, comforting and packed with flavour. 🇮🇹

And don’t even think about leaving without dessert! They have different flavours of tiramisu as well as indulgent cheesecakes, including a Dubai Chocolate Cheesecake — perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. 🤤

And while we visited for lunch, dinner is definitely calling because that’s when they bring out their Roman-style pizzas 🍕.
Pronto 478 has completely won me over — a must-visit for Italian food lovers, especially if you want to try something different. Put the sorrisi at the top of your order! ❤️
