And we always want to see more. Do more. Go further.

But what’s behind those images? Behind those results?

Days, months, years spent with your head down, chasing something that still feels impossibly far away.

And somewhere along the way, while you’re keeping your head down, tasting the salt of your own sweat as it runs down your temples and into your mouth, that distant dream slowly starts taking shape.

My grandfather used to say, in our dialect: “Nient vien da nient.”

Nothing comes from nothing.

From 19th place last year to 10th place this year, Christopher has stayed focused and disciplined through our time working together towards the Kodiak 100 miler. He’s a busy guy as a lawyer and dad of two so we had to be very intentional about his training and time.

The race day game plan was to be conservative. The big goal was top 10 to get into UTMB. Checking in on Christoper through the day he was in 23rd place. I was happy and knew he was having a smart day. Indeed he moved up in the field and nailed his goal!

I’m excited to see what he can do at UTMB and training leading up to it. Congrats Christopher! A very well executed race, and more importantly months and months of hard work that paid off.

@andyajmeza has worked hard for this one! He has had his challenges along the way, namely a pulmonary embolism that we had to navigate very carefully. Being a nurse with all his knowledge he was very smart about working back into regular training. Now, with no residual lung damage, he continues to build into an amazing athlete with many races ahead of him.

Now that Andy has earned his spot into Chamonix next year, will he take it? 👀

Some sights/scenes from the trek up to Chhukum this past week, where we will be staying for the next month-ish as a bit of a base for acclimating and climbing. The Khangri Resort here in Chhukum feels quite luxurious for a tea house at ~4800m, and soon will even have a working espresso machine :)

Mark brings decades of mountain-guiding experience, including more than 50 expeditions worldwide, and is also a veteran CTSS Mountain Guide. Maya comes from a lifelong background in endurance sports and has coached athletes for objectives ranging from Denali and Aconcagua to Everest and Lhotse.

Some selfies from a quick trip up the south face of Mount Robson this past Sunday. With an amazing forecast but limited time to get out, this made for the ideal objective to take advantage of the cool temps and clear weather. In typical Robson fashion, things didn’t go quite as planned with a lot of the easier scrambling on little Robson being in more mixed conditions and fresh snow on the upper part that made for a bit more trail breaking than anticipated. In the last picture you can see a few other people out on the upper part of the Emperor ridge! Was glad to make it back down just in the time for a late lunch at the Robson Cafe before starting the drive back home.

0 days! Well, half a day? Thank you Leif Godberson from Evoke Endurance for getting me ready for a mountain race with no serious mountains to train on!

I have so little cell service that I can’t follow CCC but guess what! French TV is covering the race! Very cool, even with limited French, I can follow and be inspired!
