In March 2026, just a few months into his freshman season, Jarno van Daalen placed second in the shot put at the SEC Indoor Championships with a personal-best throw of 20.14 meters.
Two months later at the Tom Jones Memorial Inv.
he achieved a personal best in discus at 60.64m/198’11”. He held the seasons best in discus for freshman until USC’s Mico Lampinen’s 61.89m/203’1 throw in Round 3 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in mid-June.
In the outdoor season, van Daalen’s 19.71m ranked him 3rd for freshman in 2026 behind Ben Smith (21.04m) and Nebraska’s Hencu Lamberts (20.29m). Van Daalen, Smith, Lamberts and Lampinen are four exceptional freshman throwers who have mastered the kinetic energy formula, 1/2mv², as all four are skilled at converting their shot release velocity to distance successfully.
In July 2026, van Daalen placed 2nd at Dutch Nationals at 18.94m. He finished the summer at the European Championships throwing 18.06m for 27th place. Finishing 27th may not have been what van Daalen hoped for, but competing in his first senior European Championships at just 20 was a valuable experience.

4th & 11th at the European Championships✨

Of course it was not what I came here for, but nonetheless I have had a great breakthrough season where I have had the most fun competing in a long time❤️

This time it was close but not enough. I’m still happy and proud with the progress I have made!

I want to give a special thanks to @ewerskey ,@jacqueline_goormachti , @matt_delancey and @klocke1_ for everything this season and to many more that are standing in my corner🙏🏼

🐊🔹GATOR IN THE MIDWEST🔸🐊

Thank you Coach Werskey for coming out on a home visit to see Kylee and her family‼️ We appreciate your time and commitment to meet and break bread with the Hill Family amidst the schedule of championship season for your professional athletes. 🫶🏽 Travel safe Coach! 🙏🏾

It’s a busy schedule of visits the next few weeks for Kylee. As a multisport athlete, she’s on rest week but has been doing a great job of scheduling her home visits during rest week. Who’s next to visit?

It’s giving growth, laughter & chaos. 🤍✨ Junior year was perfectly imperfect— forever trusting, working hard, and staying grateful.
