POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

When we get dogs wrong, they’re often the ones who pay the price. 💔

Kaido’s story is a reminder that a dog’s challenging behavior isn’t always a training problem. Sometimes, it’s a mismatch between who a dog is and the life they’ve been given.

Kaido wasn’t a bad dog. He was an intense, driven working breed who needed the right guidance, structure, and opportunities to thrive. 🐕

Choosing the right dog means understanding more than the breed. It means understanding their individual temperament, energy, and needs…and being prepared to meet them.

🐾 Before you bring a dog home, ask the questions that matter.

Whether you’re adopting or working with a breeder, finding the right match starts with knowing what to ask.

🐶 If you’re adopting:
• Has the dog lived in a foster home?
• What are their personality, energy level, and settling skills like?
• How do they handle being alone, children, other animals, and new environments?
• Are there any known behavioral challenges or medical concerns?
• What do you know about their history, and what’s still unknown?

🐾 If you’re working with a breeder:
• What health screenings and genetic testing have been completed?
• What are the parents’ temperaments like?
• How are the puppies socialized?
• How do you match puppies to the right homes?
• What support do you offer after adoption, and what happens if the placement doesn’t work out?

And don’t forget to ask yourself: Does this dog’s temperament and needs fit my lifestyle, experience, and expectations?

A responsible rescue or breeder should be asking YOU questions, too. ❤️

The goal isn’t just to bring a dog home. It’s to find a match where both of you can thrive.

Save this for when you’re ready to welcome a dog into your life. 🐾

WHEN WE GET DOGS WRONG: PART 2 🐾

Sometimes, the dog we think is the perfect match isn’t necessarily the dog we’re prepared for.

When Maggie first adopted Sage, she didn’t know what she didn’t know. Now, as a trainer, she sees adoption through a different lens. A dog taking treats from your hand at an adoption event can feel like an instant connection, but there’s so much more to consider before bringing a dog home.

Temperament, genetics, behavior, and the environment we can provide all play a role in setting a dog up for success. ❤️

So how do you make an informed decision when you don’t know a dog’s full history or what to expect? We’re getting into that next.

Stay tuned for Part 3 of When We Get Dogs Wrong 👀

What happens WHEN WE GET DOGS WRONG 🐾

The choices we make for our dogs matter. When We Get Dogs Wrong is a new series about the decisions we make, the assumptions we have, and the dogs who ultimately have to live with them.

For Maggie, this is personal. Years ago, she experienced firsthand what it looks like when she adopted her dog, Sage. Now, she’s taking what she learned and turning it into guidance and education for others.

Follow along for the next part of When We Get Dogs Wrong — because understanding our dogs better can change everything. 🐶

A big thank you to everyone who commented, shared, and reposted Maple’s story. Because of you, we were able to find her a temporary foster home and keep her out of the shelter. 💛🐶

For those who have been following Maple’s journey, this is a big step, but it’s not the end.

Now, we need to make sure her foster has everything she needs: food, veterinary care, training, and the support to help Maple get settled and ready for her forever home.

This is exactly why we started the Expawers Ranch Foundation, to give dogs a second chance and help cover the resources they need along the way.

Now we’re asking for your help with Maple’s next chapter. No donation is too small, and every contribution helps us continue providing the care she needs.

Donate through the link in our bio and help us get Maple one step closer to her forever home. 🔗🐶🏠

Went into the woods to clear my head.
Found 14 squirrels, something dead (so I rolled in it) and several sticks that I didn't share.

Successful morning. 🌲🤌

We have a special guest joining us tomorrow!

Sweet Dorori has been away at summer camp with @Expawers and is now ready to join the adoptable crew~ She’s 5 years old and 30lbs!

When she first arrived in the city, she really struggled to come out of her shell and could not overcome her fear of the city noises. With some fresh air and direction from the gang upstate, she’s a lot more care free!

Dorori, also known as “Rory,” was originally rescued during the Andong wildfires in South Korea last year. Though she spent some time at our center in Bundang, she regressed in NYC. Now she’s running around the woods, leaping through ponds and streams, and having a blast with all of her friends. Rory is as loyal as they come and would thrive in a home ready to keep exploring with her.

Come meet this shining star in all her glory tomorrow, we’re so excited to see what the universe has in store for this girl.

Sunday, August 2nd 1PM - 4PM

5-25 46th Avenue, LIC Queens

Heroes aren’t born. They’re built through patience, trust, and a whole lot of love.

Rory has come so far, and this is only the beginning, not just for her, but for the Expawers Ranch Foundation and all the rescue dogs whose stories are still waiting to be written. 🩵 Swipe to see Rory’s journey so far ➡️

Rory is our first. She won’t be our last.
