Check out one of Eric’s latest repair projects!

This beauty, brought to Eric from Toronto, is a Vintage Chinese Moon Lute with a very cool carved dragon head finial. In Chinese mythology, the dragon carved on musical instruments is Qiuniu, who safeguards the acoustics and properties of stringed music.

Eric reattached various elements including the finial on this piece along with amending some hairline cracks along the body. A clean and re-string makes it ready to play again.

Now about Qiuniu -
Qiuniu is the eldest son of the Dragon (Loong).

Among the Dragon’s nine sons, each was born with a different passion. Some loved
battle, some guarded temples, etc. But Qiuniu was drawn not to power, but to sound.

He listened to the wind moving through mountains, the rain falling on rivers, and
the songs of birds at dawn. To him, music was not just melody. It was the voice of the world.

And.because of his love for music, people often carved Qiuniu on the head of ancient Chinese string instruments. There, he became a quiet guardian of every note.

Got a bit of an obscure and interesting instrument in need of repair? Tired of it collecting dust in a closet ‘cause you feel there’s no one out there able to fix it?
Bring it by to Eric. He’ll take a look and give you an honest opinion and more then likely you’ll find you’ve met someone who is willing to do what it takes to get your instrument singing again.
