New on DNA Hotels, just opened.

Experimental Roma transforms a 19th-century Roman bank into a glamorous contemporary design hotel, where Rodolphe Parente combines cinematic Italian grandeur and 1970s influences with colourful marble, terracotta, polished stainless steel, sculptural furnishings, lacquered surfaces and theatrical textiles, complemented by a rooftop pool and Experimental’s signature cocktail culture.

I spend an unreasonable amount of time reading hotel news, might as well do something with it.

Introducing THE CHECK IN: five hotel stories that caught my attention this week.

Airelles in St. Barths, Oetker buying next door to Hotel du Cap, The Nora in West Palm Beach, The Plaza’s extended checkout, and Experimental’s latest in Rome.

Openings, acquisitions, and the numbers behind them, with my two cents.

What did I miss?

✍🏼 After sharing our recent stay at Menorca Experimental, quite a few of you asked for my thoughts - so here’s a little something different: the things I loved, a few things worth knowing and whether I’d go back…

*plus a few of my favourite shots from our Canon camera that tends to hibernate until we get on a plane!

Let me know if you enjoy this format - hope you find it useful for your travel plans 📌 @menorcaexperimental

A little Parisian spirit in the heart of London.
An afternoon at Henri, tucked inside the Henrietta Hotel, discovering Experimental Group - a collection of beautifully considered spaces where food, interiors and atmosphere come together.
The kind of places that make you want to linger a little longer.

Experimental Group opened Experimental Roma on October 10. It is the group’s first hotel in Rome and its second in Italy, after Il Palazzo Experimental in Venice. The 82-room property is in a former bank on Via Ludovisi, just off Via Veneto, and its interiors are by Parisian designer Rodolphe Parente.

The opening is part of a larger wave around Via Veneto. Nobu Hotel Roma opened nearby last November, and Rosewood, Baccarat and Mandarin Oriental are all expected in 2027. The street that defined La Dolce Vita is drawing a new generation of high-end hotels.

At @experimentalroma, the interiors feel assembled rather than styled. Lacquered surfaces, dark woods, muted greens and custom details sit somewhere between Roman classicism and a more eccentric 1970s vocabulary, giving the rooms a sense of depth without overstatement.

Nothing feels too polished. The references are there, but softened - less about recreating a period, more about letting different eras coexist in the same room.

Autumn escape at @cowleymanorexperimental

Behind the manor is the french @experimentalgroup which started as a cocktail bar in Paris. This makes the perfect mix of british cosy country house and french know how.

Design led, pet-friendly and huge grounds for long walks.

It is worth going for the restaurant alone, with a menu designed by the grand @jackson_boxer who turns any restaurant into gold. He’s also the force behind @vesper.restaurant @i.feel.dove and @henri__henrietta
