“Self-Portrait with LSD & Mirror” is the first poem I wrote during my mfa program :-) thank u @exquisitesbk for including it in their 4th anthology. u can buy a physical copy on their website 🐒 swipe to see me and @edotjin as a constellation ;;) Self-Portrait with LSD & Mirror Of course I became God until the mirror showed me nothing but my wire scaffolding, haze of my room held captive by my body’s stubborn perimeter—a bed frame, a wall of posters Ezra had mounted to better know themself. Who was this stranger whose room I occupied as God, this anatomy I once recognized, now a sequined light show? I used to believe in time travel. How we pummel away from any moment without our wanting, in the same way we come into this world not knowing why or by whom we are chosen. Now I’m not so sure. In the mirror that day, the lamp of my torso churning with the black lattice of eternity. Flecked with small yellow scrutinies, heavier than flesh. And suddenly I return to the present. It isn’t time travel but an impossible reunion of the past and the present, a summoning of a moment that might never be again and thus is more profound than becoming God: Jacky and I laughing on his bed for three hours straight, so loud and hiccupy that his upstairs neighbor steps onto the terrace for a smoke but mostly to see what the fuss is about, that the leaves in the yard begin to vibrate on the skinny hands they embellish, that his roommates knock on the bedroom door and ask us what’s so funny. What’s so funny? we repeat. What’s so funny? Have you ever looked at the world?
