Legendary singer Usha Mangeshkar shares a timeless vocal practice i.e. holding the sacred chant ‘OM’ (ॐ) for extended breaths.

Here is why this practice transforms a singer’s voice:

Diaphragmatic Control: Sustaining a single syllable trains the abdominal muscles to release air steadily rather than all at once.

Pitch & Tone Stability: It strips away vocal acrobatics, forcing you to maintain a steady pitch, clean resonance, and zero voice wobble.

Vocal Cord Warm-up: The gentle humming resonance of the ‘Mmm’ activates facial resonators (the “mask”) without straining the vocal folds.

Lung Expansion: Daily long holds naturally condition lung capacity, making sustained high notes and complex phrases feel effortless.
Take a deep breath, ground yourself, and hold your note today.

Ram Kadam defined Usha Mangeshkar’s artistic identity by establishing her as the premier voice of Marathi folk and lavani playback:
The Pinjra (1972) Breakthrough: Kadam entrusted her with iconic anthems like "Disla Ga Bai Disla", "Chabidar Chabi", and "Tumhavar Keli Mee Marji Bahaal", which catapulted her to superstardom.
A Distinct Identity: His compositions gave her a unique musical domain—marked by high energy, theatrical nakhra, and sharp rhythm—stepping out from the musical shadows of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.
Modernizing the Lavani: By blending classical discipline with rustic tamasha rhythms, Kadam used her crystal-clear timber to elevate folk playback into mainstream, household cinema art.
