Life has a funny way of bringing things full circle. Swipe through to see my latest published piece for @timeoutmiami , and keep going for something special I dug out of the archives. 👉

Getting published in @timeoutamerica yesterday felt like a milestone that was the culmination of work I've been putting in for the past 3 years. @miaminewtimes has been home for most of my journalism work up until now, along with @jitneybooks , but I've been hungry to find new audiences for my ideas. It's really meaningful to me that this story about Miami's #photowalk community ended up being the one I made that leap with.

The piece started forming about 6 months ago when I began pitching the story of @photowalk.305 and the incredible community @paopaokat and @__vanivan__ have built. Along the way I realized the story was bigger than one group. It was about something a lot of us have been feeling deeply: the need for real, genuine human connection in a world of shallow online interactions. That's when I started digging deeper and @miashooters came into the picture (another personal connection, with @dirtylen5 and his efforts building up the hip hop community here), along with other groups.

The last 6 slides are from the first photowalk I ever attended, organized by @veechaps 1230/23. At the time I was still deep in imposter syndrome, not fully owning photography as part of my identity. That day was one of those subtly life-altering experiences. I met people at every level of the craft, made connections that still exist today, and most importantly, discovered a community built around a shared love of capturing and preserving life as we each see it.

Sometimes you don't realize how far you've come until you look back at where you started. ✨
