Light Box Expo…thank you so much! The passion and love that this community shows at every level is truly something to witness. The sentiment I feel from everyone (myself included) is: inspiration and passion to drive on.

My 2nd year @lightboxexpo was truly life changing. From being a validation seeking indie producer to giving words of encouragement and guidance to students; the journey of this last year has been a blessing to be a part of.

I want to give a special thank you from the SKE family to my dear friend @nikoguardia and my first mentor @madtwiinz. You both expressed a profound appreciation for LBX and the value it can provide to a budding/established creative.

To @samg_anim @fourthwallmanagement and the whole team @mcarterwilliams @goodeatz_jman ; thank you for the support in all the ways your guys provide.

My brother Asa, where do I begin? Words can’t convey my feelings, because that’s it, it’s feelings. Anyways, here’s an attempt (for the few who’ll read). This last week we talked so much. We laughed and accomplished the dreams we dreamed of and much more. Dreams, Actions, & most importantly Execution; we moved with a Nike hustle, “just do it”. Forget the haters, don’t get complacent with the love; keep going.

First night of the SDcon was tough, felt it all, the spectrum of emotional duality. I really missed you, but you reminded me again (multiple times) that you were always there. I was so nervous all week and you calmed me down; and reminded me: “you belong here”. WE did this to pave a path and I can’t stop now! You reminded me not to get stuck, that we have a mission! The whole week I stayed vigilant to put full effort into everything regardless of the pain.

When I returned Thursday at 7 am, I exited the plane, and felt a wave of awe from the week that had just transpired. My brain replaying memories and I swear I saw you walking with me to baggage claim…tears flowed down my face to the ground. You always made me better brother; made me a better businessman, better artist, better friend, better person. I know this is another version of that, but I must admit it is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to navigate.

Nonetheless I’ll continue your legacy and am honored to have had the dream-chasing memories that we shared together! Cheers to the man who accomplished so much in such a short time; a testament to the value of being kind, hard working, and believing in yourself. Love you forever fam ♾️

Honoring Asa and Continuing His Light.

I met Asa in August 2010. He was 13 years old, a bright and curious young man who became our host son through the A Better Chance program.

At 6’8”, Asa was a gentle giant—always learning, smiling, and lighting up the room. He lived with intention, gratitude, and a warmth that drew people in. You always felt good with Asa, leaving you wanting more time with him. After graduating from Wesleyan University in 2018, he started a rising career at CBS Sports, earning his first Emmy in 2024 as an associate producer.
Asa died suddenly on Thursday, May 29, 2025. He was just 28.

Asa—
Losing you, a son in every way that matters, is not something I will ever make sense of. This loss isn’t a puzzle to solve or a wound that will heal with time. It’s something I must learn to carry—as it reshapes the very contours of my life.
You were woven into our family, routines, my identity as a father, and the spirit of our home. You were not just part of my life but part of my becoming.
My grief isn’t about letting go of you. It’s about learning how to carry you forward.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of photographer Asa Palmer.

Through Asa’s lens, our Girl Scout troop had the extraordinary opportunity to recreate Gordon Parks’ iconic “A Great Day in Harlem” photograph—an experience that beautifully honored Black artistry, history, and sisterhood.

Asa’s talent, warmth, and generosity of spirit brought that moment to life in a way we will cherish forever. We are deeply grateful for his time and vision.

I usually don’t post about such personal happenings in my life. But this one hurts. I still can’t believe this is real. To my production family who welcomed my cousin (Tall Khirlu) into the fold and allowed him to prove himself that belonged in the room (not because he was my cousin but because he was talented). We all watched him as he charted his own course and climbed to heights beyond our reach (definitely beyond my short reach). His gentleness, his easygoing ways…the best bear hugs. The world has truly lost something and someone special.
