Keep Britain Diverse

Britain has always been more than an island. Its history, shaped by generations of connection, migration and empire, has created a nation whose identity cannot be reduced to one look, one set of beliefs or one race.

Collaborative visual essay Keep Britain Diverse, explores what it means to belong to Britain today, confronting the contradictions of its past and the rhetoric surrounding immigration, identity and belonging.

From the Windrush generation to first and second-generation immigrants, to families who have called Britain home for hundreds of years, this is a celebration of the people and cultures that make Britain what it is. We can wear saris to watch the football and fly the Union Jack before we go to pray. We can eat okra and fufu but have a soft spot for a cup of tea and biscuits, we can pay our taxes, work for the NHS, be teachers and lawyers.

We are proof Britain thrives when cultures and communities come together, and our contributions are no less British.
